we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

It was cool to see Wun Wun back Jon even after each of them had killed a handful of their brothers at Castle Black.

I was texting with my buddy last night after the episode and we both agree the Jon/Tormund and Jaime/Bronn bromances are something we'd want spin-off series about.

Apparently a major TV critic tweeted about wanting a Lyanna spin-off last night, and I'd be down for that, too.

    I'm Back.

Alright, a couple of things that I haven't seen anyone mention here.

-I think it's fairly obvious that one or two of these following statements are true - Bran can see the future or The Hound's revenge revelation happened in the past.

I say this because in Bran's visions, we saw someone walking amidst dead bodies in grass, well turns out it was The Hound. So, either this took place in the past, and he's already traveling to King's Landing, or wherever, or this happened in the future and this is proof Bran can see what's coming.

-Arya was actually Jaquen in disguise.

I saw this on Reddit, but she isn't wearing the typical Arya clothing we've seen in the past couple of episodes (clams and cockles clothes) and she wasn't acting like we've seen her act. This Arya was just strolling along without Needle but somehow with a crap ton of gold. I think it's a test for Waif as she is taking this whole thing personal; Jaqen told her to kill Arya quickly and maybe he's trying to see if that's what she'll actually do, which she didn't. I don't know, this theory seems thin but interesting.

I actually wondered where Needle was last night. And when Arya made her bargain with the ship captains, she didn't have any of the hesitancy and secrecy I've associated with Arya for awhile. I really like this theory, actually, but I also don't think it's going to be true.

I've kinda been assuming that Arya joins up with the playmakers (based on a TWoW released chapter, admittedly) and ends up in Mereen at the same time as Theon (probably the only person on Essos who would recognize her, maybe Tyrion). Dany, Tyrion, Theon/Yara, and Arya would be four members of the major eight houses arriving back at once with dragons. And if the book plot is included at all, the Martells could be involved so 5 of the 8. And considering Arya would bring Tully allegiance, the Baratheons are all just Robert's bastards, only 1 of the 8 may not be involved in the Tyrells, but the Queen of Thorns and Margaery would totally recognize the importance of joining together with them, imo.

The ending with Arya felt tacked on, almost should have been a cold open for next week's episode. Either way it was fine, I don't have anything invested with Arya so I could care less what she's doing.

Another theory relating to Arya that I can see being true is that Jaqen is actually Sirio and this is still part of her dancing lessons.

Which is kinda why I like that theory. Arya last night was not the Arya we've known. The only thing that truly makes me doubt it is if it was Jaqen, I feel like he would've been the one who rose out of the river.

Related, but this show lucked out so hard in casting Maisie and Sophie so young and how they've turned into actresses who can hold their own in this ensemble.

I think we've had confirmation that Bran can see into the future since back in S4 when he had the "Look for me beneath the tree" visions that included the Night's King turning craster's baby into a White Walker before it happened in the show.

That loneliness is not a function of solitude.

So (book spoiler) this is set up for Lady Stoneheart to show up right? With the Brotherhood w/o Banners suddenly murdering everyone and whatnot?

  18. drstrong

    I'm Back.

Ahh ok I don't remember what led up to the vision of the baby being turned. I know he had that same vision a couple of episodes ago.

Side note, I'm really hoping that at least one more of the starts will meet up with Sansa and Jon. Or at the very least have Arya meet up with another main character.

Yes, but this has been the season of "look, they aren't dead!". How many reveals can we have in a single reason.

I think Arya was Arya and the writing of the scenes was just poor.

I want to say yes, but aren't tthey specifically targeting certain families (particularly the Lannisters and Freys) and not just anybody?
Isn't this just the second one of the season behind Jon?

  22. airik625

we've seen the shadow of the axe before Supporter

Yeah I'm also convinced that Arya truly was stabbed and nearly killed. That story arc has been extremely disappointing for a few seasons now. Ready for something to happen that will actually matters.

    I'm Back.

So if it was her, the only way she can survive at this point is by running into someone who is willing to help, right? I mean she can't do anything on her own to save herself, at least we haven't seen her capable.

If that's the case, Jaqen/Sirio or Cersei from the play.

  24. drstrong

    I'm Back.

    Jon, Benjen, Hound.

Edit: Oh, didn't someone mention that Stannis' head is up on a pike somewhere? I feel that's confirmation he's actually dead. I think this happened during one of Jon's meetings with the other houses.
