A ride leading to an inevitable battle. Still a cool moment /opinion.

    I'm Back.

Literally see NO logic behind that. But I swear, if GRRM doesn't have the damn book out by then, I'm done.

Rumor has it that he might be working on both books at the same time, obviously won't release at the same time but at least will have them done.

How is there no logic? If there is no more story to tell, let them end it. Don't add pointless filler.

    I'm Back.

But next season isn't the planned final season.

Yeah, it makes a lot of sense to me that these last two seasons could be shorter.

Maybe they found a great point in the series' final act to split the remaining episodes into two seasons???

I'd rather have a logical stopping point and another shortened season than have ten episodes next season and 3 or 4 in the final.

    I'm Back.

True, taking a book right out of Breaking Bad.

I don't understand the reasoning behind making two short seasons rather than one long season. More money, I guess?

Production schedule/budget/marketing/DVD sales/keeping the hype train going.

There are a thousand reasons why you'd keep it going.

I'm sure that plays a role, but then you also have to think about the writing/production schedules. I can only imagine ten episodes a year is pretty nuts to do. Adding on an extra three, or five, or however many, episodes would be difficult to accomplish.

Also, GRRM has stated that, in The Winds Of Winter, we're going to see more deaths, including POV characters, as well as seeing POV characters converge with others, thus whittling down the POV characters for the story's final act. We still have four episodes left this season in addition to the, assumed, last two seasons so there's still plenty of time to see a lot of characters bite it. With less characters, they don't necessarily need to do ten episodes per season, especially as they're racing towards the finish line.

*taking a page out of breaking bad's book

which they wouldn't be doing, because it would be two different seasons and not marketed/presented as FINAL SEASON PART 1 & 2

the eldritch apocalypse theory is the only thing i want to see happen in either story now

I want it to as well haha. It was really fascinating to read about. I've never cared much for the Greyjoys besides Theon, but Euron could prove to be really interesting.

A corporation trying to extend the life of one of its most profitable properties? I've never heard of such a thing.

    I'm Back.

I only brought it up because they shortened two seasons back to back.

I think it may have been mentioned? But its definitely not as prominent as in the books

This is my first time seeing this theory and I totally agree. I've seen a lot of pretty lame theories on how it could all wrap up and this is hands down the most interesting

Actually they extended the final season, then split it up across 2 years.

They want to extend it over as many seasons as possible so that their actors playing 16 year olds are actually 40.
