do you remember where you were? I was sitting at the front desk of a sophomore girl's dormitory at the private Christian university I attended. Desk manager (fake job) shifts were only four hours long and there was never much to do. I was reading the Wikipedia article of ASoIaF because I'd just finished the first book, when I was surprised to read that it was being made into a show. Either 2009 or 2010 I read this. Weird that it's embedded into my brain like that
I actually didn’t get into it until between season 1 and 2. It wasn’t really my thing at the time, dragons and knights and all that. But my buddy watched it and then was reading the books at work. I think i remember him throwing storm of swords across the bag room at one point lol my now wife was watching and had read the books, she tried getting me into it but I didn’t have much interest. Then one day shortly before season 2 was gonna start, I was flipping through hbo channels and I caught a random horny scene from episode….3? I think? Where Doraeh was showing Dany her skills, and I was like wait what’s this? And then realized it was thrones and I was like sure I’ll keep watching lol…got immediately hooked on all the plot lines. Had to rewatch to know who characters were because there were so many
The very first episode I ever saw was Battle of the Bastards lol. My sister was in from day one and we watched it on vacation together when it aired because she couldn’t wait to see it. What a fucking episode to see with literally no context lmao
Yeah the official GoT podcast had the episode celebrating the 15th anniversary. Crazy to imagine it's been that long! I had read the books prior to the show coming out so HBO doing this was like a fever dream, I never thought a fantasy show would be given the prestige status that HBO shows were known for. I'm one of the fans still holding out hope for the last two books......
Anyway, I believe it was my sister who introduced me to the show, and I actually started with Season 2 as a result, and then went back and watched Season 1 afterwards. Could not help but be completely swept up in the intrigue and character dynamics, not to mention all the interesting fantasy aspects.
watched the pilot on an illegal streamer in my dorm bc i saw a post on AP.net that the next big lotr thing was coming out lol
Found out about it my freshman year in college when they were about to start season three. Started it and then the books shortly after.
I don’t think I started watching til season 3 or 4. Had to sail the seas for the first couple of seasons. And what I watched didn’t have subtitles for Dothraki so I thought we weren’t supposed to understand them and also just used context clues to figure out what was going on
the idea of him and Emilia living down the street from each other cracks me up, like how do you not slip up and occasionally call her Dany or khaleesi or something lol
HBO marathoned AKOTSK and this all week, and I caught bits and pieces here and there, but two things I thought about this time 1. this show had so many great lines, wether directly from the books or not. Season 3 Jorah’s line “There’s a beast in every man, and it stirs when you put a sword in his hand” goes so hard. I remember it being in the trailers for the season too 2. Still hate how they botched Dany’s turn, but the way they filmed the sack of Kings Landing was pretty cool from Jon’s POV, the idea of him and the northerners being “the good guys” for so long and now Jon is watching them kill small folk, while watching Lannister soldiers trying to direct them to safety, and he’s just in mindless killing machine mode as Lannister soldiers run up to try and kill him and etc. I just liked the way they turned the tables there a bit
