Yeah Hardhome is an absolute must watch, top 3-5 episode of the show if not the best. And I agree it sucks how Stannis went out. I think that was the point where they realized okay, we're out of book to follow, and Stannis isn't going to become king, so what do we do? And they had him do a horrible thing and then had his army abandon him. I DID like the "go on do your duty" line though lol. I really can't wait to see how that storyline plays out in the book assuming it gets published. The gut punch at the end of the season is hard to beat too
I went back and revisited the OG leak for the last season. The one that everyone thought was completely wrong until it ended up be almost 100% just reading the reactions on Reddit from it is so hilarious in hindsight. “There’s no way this is real lol”
The cool thing about hardhome is that it happens off page in the books so good on the show for improving upon something.
Looking up, I saw that thread https://www.reddit.com/r/freefolk/comments/bkc8xd/compilation_of_spoilers_for_got_episodes_46/ It's depressingly fun reading these old reactions to the leaks. I've done the same for Star Wars 9 a while back.
I love how even GRRM is now coming out trying to hype up House of the Dragon by saying "Yeah, I had no part in that shit with Game of Thrones at the end... but you should should totally watch this one because I worked on the whole thing!" I'll be curious to see how huge the ratings are for this and/or how long they last.
6 is on today and yeah it’s def a step back up over Season 5, probably on par with the first 4 for me. the door is still devastating to watch, goddamn. The director and crew and actors just crushed everything there. First they unceremoniously take Summer from us (maybe my only complaint, as I didn’t think that’d be how Summer died/was hoping he’d make it to the end). Then everything from there just crushes you. Timing the first “hold the door!” That young Hodor says with Meera’s echoy voice. The look of anguish on Hodor’s face as he’s holding as hard as he can/maybe realizes this is where he dies. Then they way they time the audio of everything…it kinda goes silent and you think maybe there’s a chance he’ll hold the door and get saved by something, but then that first axe bursts through the door near his head and the sad Stark theme violin kicks in, and you know what you’re about to see. And just having shots of that happening interspersed with young Hodor shouting Hold The Door…god. Had me and my wife in tears all over again. Just so well done.
7 is on now. Still early so will have to reflect later but I just Lmao at the Sam montage at the Citadel
It's so good, especially that transition from him peeling off Jorah's skin into the pie or whatever lol
Plenty of excellent quotes from this show, but I think I’ve settled on, “Those are brave men knocking at our doors. Let’s go kill them!” as my favourite.
Stannis the Mannis better go out better in the book. Tbh I hope he doesn’t go out at all, I hope he somehow lives through the war. The happenings around Winterfell are interesting from what I remember.
Season 6 really is where things just started happening with little set up because the writers want them to.
Through with my first rewatch of season 7 since the series ended. Still love it. Yes pacing is an issue, but there are so many gratifying moments that I don’t care.
