Yeah eventually the prequel threads and the asoiaf thread will be active and a place to post shit but until those shows get off the ground or until book 6 comes out, seems like any content related to the show/world prob belongs here.
yeah, any news of the new show can go in that thread, news for the books in the asoiaf thread, this can stay memes from @David87 until people start discussing rewatches.
On that note, with the awards on Sunday: 1. The show obviously won Best Drama on Sunday based on legacy...It should have won after seasons 3-4, maybe 6. 8 was not Best Drama...lots of cool moments and big spectacular things going on, but the story was not Best Drama levels. 2. Alfie Allen should have won over Dinklage....not a knock on Peter but he's done better work on this show and Alfie fucking crushed it for 8 seasons and never got the nod, which sucks. 3. I didn't see the other shows in the category, but I am bummed that both Gwendoline and Lena didn't win. Lena, like Peter, did better work in other seasons but she really did nail the character the entire run of the show. Gwendoline did great in S8 and I'm sad she didn't get it. Maisie and Sophie I love obviously, but not like their acting was out of this world or anything in S8. 4. Such a joke that The Iron Throne was submitted for best writing and not Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Glad that lost.
Been meaning to catch a show and just never lines up right. I hope he's still gonna do another year of touring after this. Also little info has come out about the prequels but if they get the green light I hope HBO keeps him on to compose.
Reluctantly went to eat out tonight with the lady friend who was craving a lentils plate at this restaurant 30 seconds walking from my apt. My reward for being a good sport was unexpectedly sitting next to Michiel Huisman Aka Daario.
Still mad they didn't give him the weird green beard and all that flamboyant stuff he had in the books
It's for the best probably. I think it was an orange beard with a blue mustache. Or maybe vice versa.
Shocked this hasn’t been posted yet. It’s all over Twitter. Long thread, but worth reading all of it.
It’s a good insight into what they were dealing with. Ending of the show was far from perfect, but people being so up in arms about the fantasy aspects being toned down is silly. The show pulled so many for being more grounded with hints of supernatural. Also, in being mad they didn’t continuously read reactions to the show as it went on? Really? What artist in any form does this to themselves? I think the diehards of the books refuse to acknowledge the process of doing something like a multi million dollar show for arguably the biggest television network ever.
The part about each episode being 39 minutes until HBO forced them to do more character-based stuff is wild. It really sounds like HBO blindly trusted these budding writers to make gold. Also the comments about writing episodes themselves, only having one woman on staff, one asian... yeeeeeeesh.
Yeah while they’re assholes the issue here is less with what they did and more with how HBO/other producers are willing to let unproven, mediocre white dudes have carte blanche to do what they want (see: Colin Treverrow) when non-white, non-male creators have to continuously prove themselves over and over again and really fight for funding
You mean just in the writing staff and not altogether right? Cause there were women involved in other major positions of development. I understand that criticism and it’s a terrible look for them. This was a project these two had been passionate about for years though, and wanted to do as a project together. I don’t how I would react to or process spectators telling me you should be delegating and giving others creative control over your project that you worked to get. These two shared the interest together back in 2006 and spent two years talking/working with Martin to come to an agreement. Martin chose them and gave the green light because they were the first to present him with an adaptation he deemed worthy of his project. Many others before them wanted to do shallow nutshell movies or cable tv, neither of which he was interested in.
I get that. But having a diverse writing staff is essential to any show, especially if the entire thematic drive is to write "a show about power and its pitfalls."
