Wrong - literally the second scene in the show was Ned beheading a guy for ditching

Is that a jailer? I thought that would he the Lord Commander in that case. Either way, there was no outside force there to make sure they stayed.

i was referring to his going North of Wall to infiltrate and killing Halfhand at his request to legitimize the ruse, i thought you were referring to that

Also it was only a prison to some (most) people there. It used to be where a lot of noblemen would go if they weren’t going to inherit anything. Hence Benjen and Jon and Aegon

I really thought this was a plothole / mistake at first too, but the more I thought about it the more it did seen like a not terrible idea to have some kind of small security force watching the northern border. They had a very specific task before, and now it would be more generalized 'watch for threats' type thing. I mean, we ended up knowing fuck all about the Night King and the White Walkers - who's to say there can't be more of them or more very similar threats that many people don't actually think are real or real anymore but they are?

Yes, there was...if they deserted, they would basically have a warrant out calling for their execution. And nobody would be sympathetic to them

  8. oh no i meant what he did at the very end by presumably going to live in the wild

“Slave” is probably more accurate than “prisoner” tbh

i am pleasantly surprised they didn't go the "Daeny is pregnant" route, thought that was a certainty before this season started tbh

I thought the very last scenes with Jon Snow were done really well. I don't think they needed to spell everything out for us specifically with dialogue. Is he abandoning his post and just taking off? Possibly, although that doesn't seem like a very 'Jon Snow' thing to do. With The Wall / Castle Black not being as crucial as they were before, and with the power structures of Westeros being much different, perhaps Sansa's kingdom goes further north than The North used to, and maybe shes going to have some sort of alliance with The Wildlings. Maybe The Night's Watch really is just him now and he can "order" himself to do whatever the fuck he wants. I liked how some people said Bran and Sansa knew The Nights Watch wasn't really a thing anymore and it was just sort of a ruse, a way to have Jon not be executed and freed but still 'punished'.

They must have decided for some reason to drop it. Maybe they realized killing two pregnant women in the space of an episode would be too much even for them. There’s no way it wasn’t meant to go somewhere with how heavy handed they were foreshadowing other things.

I always liked David Benioff after reading and loving "City of Thieves", but I can't lie, there are times when he comes off as very dumb and kind of a prick in a lot of the GoT behind the scenes stuff.

I wish there were video of him saying that book report line, because the way I read it it really comes off like a bro trying to say something badass while talking about his show that has violence and hot chicks getting naked.

There was a quote from one of the directors about how an exec came up to him and told him he represented the “perv part of the audience” and told him to go for full frontal nudity and stuff. I have no idea if that was specifically Benioff, but that gross bro viewpoint was 100% a part of the creation to some degree.

Also I could have happily gone my entire life without finding out who his father is. It really explained more than anything else I have ever read about the show.

A coworker told me they hated the ending and want 8 years of their life back. I don't understand how an ending you don't like can ruin the rest of the show for you.

Although I haven't watched How I Met Your Mother since they fucked that ending up so maybe they're on to something.

If a bad final episode can ruin an entire long show, then it probably wasn't a good show to begin with.

Wow, that really sucks. But it does shed a lot of light on why things played out the way they did.

HIMYM really did ruin the entire show in retrospect. It also happened to age horrifically almost immediately after it ended, so it would not have had a long legacy anyway, but that ending made it sooooo much worse.

That's one hell of a clickbait headline haha. He says nothing of the ending as we're thinking of it. While it may happen very differently, I think it's more likely than not that we are looking at, at minimum, Dany dying. Jon not taking the throne is also very possible now at this point.

His quote is literally "yes and no" and goes into explaining that the ending can't be completely the same due to having so many more characters.
