Honestly I think at the end of the day it was a pure power move from Sansa and she was smart enough to know this was the moment to make it. Her brother was just named King and it appears she has the biggest army around KL at the moment not named the Unsullied. Like I think we want to believe she was doing it out of her care for the North, but......I think there was some strategery going on there with her. She wanted the power and took it.
that reminds me, when john was walking down that winding staircase to get on the boat at the end, it reminded me of the scene where he first meets dany at dragonstone(?). feel like he also walked down similar stairs overlooking the ocean then
Sansa has learned how to be a decent politician from that weasel Littlefinger. Just one of the reasons she was the better option to rule over Bran IMO.
One possible change---I think it's very very possible Jon straight up dies at the end as well. I think it's very possible that, if he's not ending up on the throne, that he ends up dead as well as Dany. And I don't think D&D could handle killing them BOTH off, so they gave Jon a somewhat happyish ending.
Their relationship always felt as if it were simply a plot point and not legitimate in any sense. As she lay there dying I yelled "Ygrette was always better anyway ya monster"
I was talking about Jon and Tyrion haha but yeah they definitely rushed the love on Jon and Dany as well. 7 more episodes to make these last two seasons full seasons could have fixed so much of the "off" feelings from the last season or so.
The amount of hate and/or disinterest in Jon on this board is astounding. It's so completely disproportionately negative here for him as opposed to almost everywhere else I see or read, both in real life and even places like reddit or twitter. I truly don't get it.
I love Jon. He’s the most archetypical character and the most open about his motivations so I get people being bored by him or disinterested compared to the richer psychologies around him but he’s great.
Yeah, I love Jon as well. It's always jarring coming into this thread and seeing so many people "treating him" so poorly, haha
You hit the nail on the head. He's just THAT GUY. I also don't personally find the actor (don't even know his actual name after all this time) all that charismatic or engaging in the slightest. Fucker just lulls me to sleep. That impassioned speech he gives earlier this season was the first time I was like...wow, look at this guy...The whiny/wimpy Orlando Bloom thing he's got going on always irritated me too (superficial, I know).
Yep, as of the latest update (which added a ton of detail), they had everything down to Tyrion finding Jaime’s hand and Dany looking like a dragon. The previous versions were correct about the plot points but didn’t have quite as much spelled out.
Much appreciated to everyone for not bringing the leaks into here and spoiling anything, especially if the entire show's ending was out there!
Agreed - gave me more time to process during the actual show and find other things to enjoy/admire. The first hour of the finale was actually pretty fantastic. I got lost when the dragon pit scene happened...from then on it was hit or miss for me.
The previous episodes were easier to freely speculate about because there was still a fair amount of possibility that they were fake, but after five most of that went out the window. The only time I had to really resist the urge to say anything was when David said he expected Bran to win. That was a tough one.
I absolutely loved the pacing of the first hour of the finale, and the filmmaking on display was incredible as it has been for most of this last season, even when I wasnt crazy about some of the story choices (i.e. Tyrion walking through a very intact Red Keep and finding his siblings under a few bricks, etc.)
People speculating wildly these last few weeks was rough to see because it really seemed like everyone was desperate for this show to go out in a an awesome and epic way and that really wasn't happening, and also because so many people's zany theories were so much more creative and fun and satisfying than what we ended up with.
Jon was just too safe in the show. Lacked the nuance he had in the book, which was disappointing. Same with Dany. Which is ironic because if this was always where they ended up why would you not lol
I've been saying something similar to this during our watch parties. I said I actually kind of feel sorry for people who chose not to watch this show during its peak while it was airing live. Not because it's the greatest show of all time or best written or anything like that - it's just that there's hardly been anything else like this in terms of reactions, speculation, hype and everything else that has come with it. The overall bonding and conversation and all of the side benefits of watching this show week to week is something that these people will not experience if they decide to binge the whole series a year from now. They're going to have a totally different experience.
Lost was the only show I ever had special watch parties for, and even that was only on a few occasions because I didn’t live near my friends who were into it. The one for the series finale was incredibly fun and I still remember how all out we went with the food and decorations. I also recently had a couple friends over on two nights to binge all of Grace and Frankie season five, but that’s definitely a different vibe.
