I think part of what bothers me about the show now that it's complete is that, so much of it was about the ostracization and abuse of women and the inherent oppression of the systems the people live in, and they fumbled Dany so badly, a symbol of liberation from those systems and of women on the show, all for her death to go unacknowledged even in a tragic sense (in real tragedies, when Hamlet or Macbeth or Romeo/Juliet die, the whole rest of the story is ruminating on why it happened and what it means), all for a slight shift in government (kings are chosen now!) where things aren’t really much different but this time it’s a good thing because we like the people in power. Like, they don’t explore what any of all this really means at all
I just told you I happy danced when he died! lol To say you stand completely by the evisceration of an entire population of people as a form of liberation is unreal.
Hence why they should have all been wiped out by TKK because none of it mean ANYTHING in the greater scheme of things. As someone said, in 50 or so years Bran will die and then the nations will be more than ready to fight and destroy each other again. The Game of Throne(s) will never end and thankfully for capitalism and (HBOs) sake, we will be fed many a story about the befores and afters of this one particular story.
1. Seeing Jon turn himself in/get captured would've been a great scene, but of course showing it would've necessitated they give us a longer season, and heaven forbid that happen! 2. Again, scenes they could've added to enhance the episode. They bring back Robin Arryn (!), but don't even give him any dialogue??!! Come on!! 3. I thought the shots of the castle were inconsistent with what we saw last week as far as how bad the damage was, but then, that's very on-brand for them this season. 4. It certainly looked like the entirety of the ceiling collapsed last week. There certainly wasn't enough space for anyone, even Tyrion, to squeeze through. Not to mention the pieces he had to move to see Jaime and Cersei's bodies seemed pretty conveniently small. And they didn't look like they'd just been crushed to death by thousands of pounds of castle once he dug them out, did they? They could've been sleeping.
Did not anticipate he would make it to the end, but he was a good dude so I'm all in for it. Wish Jorah had stuck it out even though his queen sucked ass.
I also wish that Bran’s personal thoughts on being king were established more in the end, because leaving it ambiguous opens the door for a much more horrific future than anything we’ve seen, and I doubt that was their specific intention with the ending. If he really did orchestrate everything to get to the future he saw for himself without any thought to what pieces had to move to make it happen, I don’t know if Dany staying and conquering the world would even be more bleak.
He’s good at surviving! Also he’s the only person that EVERY fan loves. Shame he never mentioned his family again though...
was it ever confirmed that they added or removed footage from the episode? my truther theory is that they added jon petting ghost
This is obviously not a serious criticism but it is funny that Tyrion only had to move like 3 bricks to find his siblings' bodies meaning that if they had sidestepped a little bit they would've been fine and avoided the collapsing ceiling
there were all sorts of spots they could've hidden tbh it made the whole thing feel a lot less dire lol
I’m pretty sure him petting Ghost was in one of the leaks, so if it was added in it didn’t happen just a day ago. I lost track of how recent some of those leaked details came in, so it could have been a late in the game change in theory. And yeah I was sure that the entire building collapsed on them. That was quite a shock when he started strolling through and it was all mostly intact.
Grey worm's revenge is a BA spin off too! Go find you some more unsullied and come back with more baby dragons baby.
if the dragon flying scene in episode one was How to Train Your Dragon than the Daeny/Jon tragedy scene felt like a bad attempt at stage theater. im seeing talk of the "election" meeting feeling like a tonal shift but Daeny's death scene was much more jarring for me. didn't land for me at all. although the set itself was gorgeous and made me WANT A GODDAMN VIDEO GAME IS ANYONE LISTENING. Jon's ending didn't work for me either for reasons that have mostly already been discussed at length. the dude saved the world and gave up his place as heir for the betterment of the realm but there was no middle ground to be found between knighthood and exile? if Grey Worm was slitting throats of surrendered Lannister soldiers in the streets, how did Jon make it out the front door alive? Bran's shift is so strange. an episode ago it feels like if you had asked him what a joke was we wouldve gotten a Werner Herzog monologue about the failure of man and now he's cracking wise. i enjoyed the season a lot overall but the finale didn't do it for me. i like that the North is it's own entity and i love the small council, that scene was great feel-good cheeseball stuff. idk i didn't get remotely emotional at any point and that is surprising and disappointing to me
I got a little emotional when Tyrion was uncovering Cersei and Jaime and he was crying and angry. Other than that, I didn't get teared up or a lump in my throat for anything else. That was disappointing, but then again I almost never got emotional during the rest of the show.
When Tyrion started smashing that brick all I could think of was that truly terrible beetle monologue and I burst out laughing. Totally took me out of such a serious moment.
Yeah as ruthless as Dany and Greyworm were portrayed to be for their heel turns, Tyrion is humanely arrested and allowed to talk some treason to Jon, and Jon kills the Queen and the Dothraki and Greyworm keep both him and Tyrion alive long enough to hold to not only hold a trial but they decided to get the world leaders involved and let Tyrion run the show. Tyrion ends up in the second most powerful position in the world and Jon is going back to the place he chose to go in season 1. When I think about it like that this was kind of silly. I think it would have been much better if we had one more episode that at least let us see that Greyworm kind of came to understand how dangerous Dany had become or something to give him some internal conflict on the issue.
