I still think it would have been more epic if the Night King had gone to Kings Landing and actually sat on the throne. Imagine the big battle that could have happened instead of the one we got last episode. The battle at Winterfell could have just been a distraction whilst he flew to Kings Landing with most of his army accompanying him.
I don’t know if I can take any of those questions seriously when they have The Waif stabbing Arya as a choice for “best fight”.
Yeah that entire tweet was a pretty bad choice...there’s so many good one on ones in this show and they missed a lot of them. Not having Ned/Jaime was a big miss
In Order of the Thread: Lady Mormont Dany’s Brother Gendry’s Hammer Shireen Joffrey Lady Olenna Sansa Hardhome Brienne v Hound Tywin The Waif Shaggy Dog Ygritte Davos Brienne Lady Olenna
I’m gonna go.. Ned (but omg fuck this one right off the bat) Viserys Longclaw Hodor Joffrey Oberyn Arya Oof....Hardhome? The Mountain and the Viper Tywin Stannis! Fuck this one so hard. I’m saying Summer but I’m not happy about it. Robb (The King in the North!) I guess Ned but that’s more nostalgia than who would prob help me wield power more haha Brienne Olenna
The look of surprise/possible doubt on Jaime’s face when he realizes Ned is better than he expected him to be is great. They’re not considered nearly as close in skill in the books but I do think that is partly because the country for some reason underrates Ned as a swordsman, probably because he never leaves the North or fights in tournys. You would think rumors of him defeating Arthur Dayne would have inflated his legend as a swordsman but apparently not.
I agree with all of that, I just don’t think that bitterness was really addressed enough this season is all. There was probably a part of her that secretly wanted the people of that specific city to burn the whole time which is why she never showed that inclination towards the people of Essos or anywhere else. It just didn’t fully present itself until she was in the moment. But on the other hand, she also had every reason to burn it down from a tactical standpoint. They just didn’t SHOW us any of that bitterness towards the common people, at least enough for it to land properly. As my post states, I loved the decision but they could have addressed her resentment for the non-supporters a little more this season and then it wouldn’t have seemed quite so “out of nowhere” for so many people.
Yeah Jaime has a reputation of being one of the best swordsman alive, possibly the best (though many would argue Barristan, Mountain, Hound, and a few others could take him)...Ned has more of a reputation of being a good war strategist and such, not as much for his fighting ability.
https://www.vulture.com/2019/05/game-of-thrones-finale-daenerys-tragedy.html Really imo the only think piece I’ve read about this season that has been worth my time. The definitive take on the last episode. I’m read to call “The Bells” a top 5/10 GoT episode.
That promo shot of Dany looks like it’s borrowing tremendously from Triumph of the Will. Her speech is definitely going to be rough if they’re leaning into that imagery. I still don’t know if my bet is on her being portrayed as completely evil or completely out of her mind or some combo, since the last episode wasn’t super clear on how much was “madness” and how much was planned cruelty. I don’t expect there to be much (if any) of who she was left either way.
I don't think she'll be on "Burn them all!" levels of madness, but I could see her being more like Cersei: using truths to justify her cruelty and such. Something about how the people of Kings Landing need to fear her or they won't let her rule, but she'll be a better ruler than they've ever had will stamp out injustice and etc blah blah. Same kind of stuff Cersei was saying when she held court in Season 7 with the Lords trying to rally them to the defense of Westeros about protecting the people and such
There are less dialogue driven scenes this season. Be of my favourite scenes of the season was when the knighted Brienne. The Banter between developed rivals/enemies/peers was charming. Unrelated, but they didn’t develop the Knight King’s history enough for me to even care about him/his motivations and demise. Watching Cersei see the city burn and crumble from the tower and try and remain positive was a really good character moment. She’s the real villain/trigger point for what has happened during the series (it all traces back to her except for the wall/wildlings/white walkers story).
So ready for this garbage to be over. Emilia Clarke's reactions when asked about this season rule though, she is an actual queen.
With a big series like this I always wonder how the actors who didn’t have established careers before will adapt/do working after the show, and what kind of roles they will get.
