A little random but the last episode really reminded me of the romantic piece Symphonie fantastique by Hector Berlioz, particularly the last movement.

There are actual bells in the middle of the piece while the "Dies Irae" theme plays. Dies Irae is Latin for "Day Of Wrath" which is a 13th century hymn/chant used in funeral masses at the time. The end of the piece is also pretty chaotic, much like the episode itself. Just a cool similarity, a really good piece nonetheless.

Idk i just feel like I was lied to this whole show after that last episode. Glad i only spent 3 weeks on it instead of years heh. Welp! Onto Chernobyl

Yeah, the main discussion now is how the books will differ in getting to this ending. If they come out at all, of course.

There needs to be A LOT more story for the Breaker of Chains to turn into whatever the hell kind of villain they're trying to make her

  5. Yeah this episode (this season really) seemed to of split people down the middle. Some think it isn’t her character, some think it’s been building for 8 seasons, some think it’s fine but rushed and some are fine with it.

She's only ever burned people who deserved it, (or lords who wouldn't bend the knee). This makes no sense

Edit: I was SO surprised when Tyrion admitted he's afraid of her, like what?

Yeah. They’ve foreshadowed the Mad Queen but I don’t buy the execution. She said “fear it is” or whatever but everyone clearly feared her after her initial attack and they didn’t land the jump from “power hungry and imperialist but still guided by some form of morals” to “actively deciding to slaughter innocent, oppressed people”. It makes her character read a lot weaker, especially if I’m remembering right and her last scene before the battle was when she was rebuffed by Jon.

Not complaining about the endgame based on my own expectations or anything like that, but I honestly thought the ending would see Dany having to go through some acceptance that she is not meant to be the queen of the seven kingdoms - especially when Jon's identity is revealed. She knew from visions that this probably wouldn't happen for her, so I thought there would come a point where she had to really wrestle with what she truly wanted: the burning desire (pun intended) to destroy all of her enemies and make everyone fear her so much that they bow to her or truly wanting to make the world a better place (of course, for this to work, she would have had to known about Jon's parentage earlier on so she could deal with it for a lot longer.)

I also thought she would have an actual faceoff with Cersei where Dany started to go conquerer-style for a bit before making some decision that left her sacrificing herself to save the people of King's Landing. I have no idea. I just did not think they would actually make her flip the switch and go full on super villain lol no ambiguity to it at all which I did not expect.

I just watched that video of everybody being disappointed for 3 minutes and I agree entirely that Liam Cunningham busting out laughing at Conleth’s face is too pure and good for this world.

Varys really hammers it home about how they flip a coin when a Targ is born, something we’ve heard numerous times. It’s like they know this is rushed and are just making sure we remember that in addition to all Dany has lost. Really needed ten episodes.

I love Varys so much, I hate that I have him to blame for hearing coin flip 400 times this week. So many sour tastes left in my mouth over his story, now I have to add a metallic one too?!

And not a criticism, but did anyone else think that Drogon seemed more intelligent and emotional in the scene killing Varys than maybe ever before?

    Interesting.

I wonder how much Drogon feeds off Dany’s attitude and / or the vibe he gets from her impacts how he feels? Or if she like, vents to him and that’s why he was more emotional? Or if he’s super pissed / sad because of losing his brother(s) recently? Since they’re super smart creatures I would like to think that his emotions and reactions are based on how his mother is feeling.

Would Drogon kill Jon if he confronts Dany?

If he saw it, yeah, but Drogon might be like a dog with a family member that never comes home if he doesn’t.

I don’t want anything bad to happen to Dany simply because I don’t want Drogon to be sad lol. I really don’t care what happens to Dany but I do care about Drogon.

Yeah I’m not sure. They haven’t really gone into their nature very much. I was just struck by how he seemed to be relishing what he was doing and taking his time compared to other kills. Of course that could just be because they wanted more suspense since it’s a bigger character and not anything deeper about Drogon.

  19. This illustrators Instagram is...very interesting. Potential spoilers I suppose?

He has drawn up some scenes (some dating back from before S8 even aired and they were pretty spot on)

Even a drawing of Varys getting killed outside in a similar manner before E5 details were out or before it aired at all.

You’re too easily buying into Melisandre’s explanation of things. There isn’t fate or some god’s will determining everything. Not even the people who can occasionally do magic have any idea how it works.

If the whole series is basically the anti-LOTR (or at least the books bc the show’s arguably dumped it for the most part), then the point to be hammered in is that the fantasy trope of “[Character] has a destiny to fulfill” is just a way to make sense of the nonsensical chaos and horror that the characters live through

I just straight up bought the CDs for the first two lol...3rd one I bought on iTunes.

In the books it appears Jon was the unlikely hero all along. Without the internet hivemind to figure it out, 90% of the people reading would prob never peg Jon for future king.

I’m thinking iTunes is the way to go maybe. I got the trial for audible but I don’t understand, you have to pay for a membership and then still pay for the book? Makes no sense

Not gonna lie I was invested in seeing Daenerys take the throne. Her dragons and her men are the majority reasons that they won the Great War and then...fart noises. For such a smart guy they sure did make Jon a naive fool when it came to telling Sansa and Arya. Like come on chump

Also speaking of Arya...I always thought Gendry was wayyyy older than her so that sex scene made me wildly uncomfortable, even if she was older now than when they first met

Why didn’t I know who Benioff’s father was?! I need to go back to bed.

So, it’s possible Benioff thinks Daenerys was just making a tough decision when she destroyed the city with fire.
