Sure, this makes sense to me, it just felt like that descent happened very very quickly which I suppose is the flaw of the whole season. But this pretty clearly disagrees with the post I was quoting, where JC says it was well-reasoned and done with a specific goal in mind. I don't think that fits with "anything but calculated"
Would just like to repeat the request that a number of other people have said already to not discuss the leaks or impression of the leaks until after next week's episode airs.
Oh yeah I don't think she decided to do premeditated war crimes, I mean even earlier in the episode she told Grey Worm to stand down if the city surrendered. Also yeah the flaw for me is that these character beats that have been built up for years are culminating too quickly. The groundwork that was laid over the last two seasons was rushed by a lot. It's frustrating that these moments weren't given time to breathe but I personally wouldn't say anything that's happening doesn't make sense.
Yeah I mostly meant also not discussing what people think of the leaks because I don't think anyone in here would actively spoil it for people who don't want to know, no matter how little they themselves care about spoilers.
It's crazy to me that D&D apparently could have had 2 more seasons and declined. If you're burnt out and just wanna be done...just quit and let someone else do it. If you really think that was the best amount of time to finish this series...you're bad at your job i guess? very weird
I don't even think two more seasons would have been necessary, just having the seven more episodes they lost would have fixed a lot of the issues. Can you imagine how much better this would have been with four more episodes tacked on to this season?
I hope D&D lose Star Wars after all the negative reactions this is getting. They don't deserve to work on it imo. And hopefully this could be the final nail in the Confederate coffin as well. That shit should've never been greenlit in the first place.
I thought this ep was a huge step up from the last two and was shot beautiful. I agree with most every complaint I've read on here though, even though I liked it.
Honestly, the second and third times that Euron hit the dragon with the scorpion bolts in the last episode don't make a whole lot of sense now that you see a little more about how those things work. I can buy that he got the drop on them and that they did not see the ambush coming, I can buy that he is a master boater, I can even buy that he's an amazing shot and he had that first shot planned, but getting off those second two one-in-a-million shots in such rapid succession? I think it was a result of them trying to be VERY shocking and graphic with the dragon's death and to really drive home the idea that it is dead AF and not making it through. I think one bolt hitting him hard in the chest would have taken him down and killed him even if not immediately and would have been much more logical and believable if less shocking and graphic.
Her even having a list at this point would really be a twist of the knife after everything with The Hound becoming Sandor to her and her walking away from revenge in a major way and seeing what violence looks like on a grand scale. But of course if most of the character arcs are just static or cyclical then she may definitely just go back to scheming and planning next time we see her. I just watched the preview and she’s clearly in it, so the horse feeling like an ending must have been unintentional.
Maybe I need to re-watch it but did we know that Euron shot the other bolts as well? I may be misremembering but I had the impression they came from different angles, meaning they were shot from different ships?
That's definitely a little bit better, but even then that also really stretches credibility that the other two whoever they are randos would be just as good of a shot as Euron... Kind of a different problem still.
I personally never saw her taking the Hound off her list as her walking away from revenge. I just thought that she realized that certain people are redeemable, and the Hound became a far better person over the course of the show, which change was catalyzed by his time with Arya more than anything else. I mean the first thing she does when she's back in Westeros is take revenge on the Freys, I don't think she's abandoned that aspect of herself. Besides she probably views killing Daenerys as justice, not as personal revenge.
what effect did euron have on the story? he usurped the iron islands. that’s about it. yes, some of those characters had effects on the story that much. locke essentially kickstarted jaime’s entire arc.
I love that even though we are on polar opposite sides of whether or not this season has been good we can still agree on this entirely. I could have written this post word for word.
Well at that point Rhaegal was severely wounded from the shot that Euron landed, so it was probably easier for them to land their own.
