It's as valuable as saying "y'all suck" when I feel like there's been plenty of reasoning for why people didn't like the scene in question, even if one disagrees.

If the episode had delved into Jamie and Cersei's mentality, really showing what got them from point A to point "dying in each other's arms under collapsing rubble", I could see it working. But the episode didn't do that. The majority of their screentime was Jamie missing an exit and having to detour by running around the entire castle and Cersei standing in one place like the "this is fine" cartoon dog.

and yeah I can't say I'm a fan of genetic determinism. My favorite movies tend to actually hammer down the opposite message when dealing with it. Spider-Verse and the Last Jedi are good recent examples.

It’s at the point where I feel kinda bad for D&D cause they’re gonna be the subject of so much Nerd Rage from terminally-online types for years to come, but also...they fucked this up pretty bad.

in my experience of playing tabletop RPGs, hardcore fantasy nerds are lowkey sometimes the most toxic people around. i cant imagine what would happen if you found the deep interweb version of that person and gave them a twitter.

As far as I can remember we never saw a closeup of her again, just saw Drogon raining down fire and death from above, which I thought was a great touch.

I have to watch the episode again, because I did get kind of drunk during it, but I enjoyed the hell out of the episode even while the story was basically 100% doing everything I had been hoping it would not do.

This season could have used an episode set in King's Landing before last night's episode. Get into Cersei's head, maybe as Arya/The Hound/Jamie come into King's Landing they can experience the citizens and they can be humanized beyond the surface texture of "women and children are dying". Maybe they don't mind that Cersei is queen, maybe they desperately want liberated, the psychology of the people would play even greater into Dany's deciding whether or not to go Mad Queen. It'd be all the more harrowing when she does, as much as I would have preferred another route for her character.

    HIRE THIS MAN.

Or this season could have just used the correct number of episodes (as did last seasons) with an additional season after that to finish the story correctly :)

  16. Or, instead of needing more episodes, they could have paced earlier seasons better

I feel like the entire show's focus on Jamie and Cersei's relationship spoke enough for their mentality of seeing each other as the entire world is burning and they know they are about to die.

The only thing left in the world which brought them both joy was their love for each other. Jamie, despite trying to leave her, came back for her and was just stabbed and bleeding out. His last act in this world was to try and save the woman he loves and their child. Unfortunately for them a character went mad due to Cersei and is now burning the entire city of our fear, rage, and revenge for the deaths of her friend, child, and family name. All stemming from Cersei. Now they see each other one last time before each die and hold onto each other last time as they meet their fate because it was all they had left.

I enjoyed how it came full circle. I don't think I needed Arya cutting her head off. She died from her own doing. The death was more tragic for Jamie: a character most actually liked and rooted for. He attempted to shake his love for Cersei but in the end could not. It was sad and in my minority opinion, well executed.

I JUST realized I meant Strax, thank you for still knowing what I meant. Lol. They’re basically just “The Mountain Without His Helmer” and then promo pics of him. I’m sure some with better context in the image itself will be coming. My immediate thoughts were him and obviously Vader as well, which I’ve also seen posted already.

  19. From that AV club article regarding Cersei / Jaime that makes sense to me

As long as A kills D and S trips and breaks her neck walking to the thrown bequeathed to her by J and we fade to black I'm cool!

As someone who hS not really enjoyed (relatively speaking) the last 2 seasons last nights episode was excellent. I agree with some of the arc complaints (namely Jaimes, not so much Danys) but outside of that it was fantastic and enthralling television. Top ten episode imo

I also felt like the Varys thing was rushed...just felt weird to keep him kicking around so long just to write the letter and get burned like that. The moment with T was nice, though. I'm glad that even though I'm not happy that T was reduced to another Dany apologist and fanboy, all of his scenes have proven pretty meaningful and well executed.
