I just assumed the symbols were what they had adopted from the Children of the Forest because that's how they were created. It's now their "mark" that they leave, almost like Anthony said like it's been "programmed" into their operations as part of who they are.

I thought some of the editing was pretty bad too, tbh. The shaky cam paired with extremely quick cuts made it pretty hard to follow at times. But that's just my opinion as a professional video editor.

(hopefully that's enough context and explanation)

It’s also disappointing because that’s one of the most overused and poorly done techniques in battle scenes in general. The best parts of the episode were where they didn’t go that direction, and they’ve shown that they can take it other ways previously while still showing chaos and claustrophobia.

I didn't mind it because I kind of assumed it was gonna be pure chaos because the dead don't have any other strategy other than just overwhelm and mindlessly attack.

But yeah the longer scenes throughout the battle were definitely the best. Jon getting pinned down in the courtyard by the dragon was insane every time they cut to it. That blue fire looked awesome

As someone who has survived countless Zergling rushes I would kno how to properly defend Winterfell.

  9. The only way to achieve victory was to kill the night king, so a better plan of getting the night king alone or separated should have been conceived. They were halfway there with isolating Bran by himself, but the only way to really get to him is for the night king and forces to overrun Winterfell, killing everyone in the process. More thought may have reduced the number of casualties.

And I know it's a fake battle in a show lol. Fun to talk about though.

The plan wasn't to literally lure the Night King on foot into the Godswood, it was to put Bran out in the open to draw him out and then attack the Night King with Drogon and Rhaegal when he showed up on Zomberion. The goal was to take him out before the army of the dead got to the walls. That plan just went horribly wrong with the storm and all that.

Yeah so they already had an idea that The Night King had a dragon? I assume Tormund and Edd told them but... I don't recall that?

I've heard that "criticism" a lot more than I thought I would. People complaining we didn't find out more about his backstory/motivation or who he was (as if he was automatically some important figure in the past before being converted to the Night King).

I think a lot of people had so much of this built up in their heads that there HAD to be some connection with Bran (specifically him and not 3ER) or that it shouldn't be as simple as it was. I'm like, "I think you're just overthinking it. They told us everything we needed to know. He was a random human a long time ago who was programmed to kill, and it got out of control. That's really it."

They told them but it’s fine that you forgot because despite it being the most important thing to be worrying about it’s never discussed beyond Bran being a weirdo and them ignoring it.

Bran told them he had a dragon in the first episode.

Also, Dany ruined their plan after she saw the Dothraki get decimated. Her and Jon were supposed to wait up high and attack as soon as they saw the NK but she left early and Jon followed her and that's when everything went to shit

Right, I kind of put that together later, but at first it almost seemed like their only plan was "PROTECT BRAN AT ALL COSTS" for some reason. Really, they just needed to keep him alive as bait until Jon and Dany could roast the Night King, and they screwed that up by rushing into the storm.

Although, I don't really know if it would have worked out any differently. The Night King was just going to wait until everything was destroyed by his army anyway. Had they not flushed him out, there's a good chance his army would have decimated Winterfell and Bran. They kind of got lucky that he was an arrogant idiot and wanted to kill Bran with his own hands. Otherwise, he wouldn't have even gotten involved and could have sat back and won.

At least @EASheartsVinyl has actually been a part of the conversation and explains her viewpoints. Genuinely responds and converses on what she does like and doesn't. Some points being very valid. This episode was, for the most point, enjoyed by the masses. It was down right amazing in certain scenes. "This show is bad" is not engaging nor is it valid.
