what would they need them for?

I could be way off, but wasn't the main priority of the Night Watch was the protect anyone south of them from the Night King and his army? Are they even necessary anymore?

Right. And even if for some reason they needed to raise a new Night's Watch, they'd have to rebuild the wall as well. Does anyone remember the incantations required to make it back into the magical barrier it would need to be?

I reckon the rest of the wall will be coming down at the end of the season.

Depends on who's ruling in the end really. If it's Cersei Trump i'd imagine she'll be all about keeping that wall up.

So apparently after Dragonstone came out the director was like, “Oh yeah, that could be Wun Wun. Might not be. Who knows.” I’m super confused now. I hadn’t given much thought to how he ended up with them, but having two different scenes with a giant missing an eye just seems like a strange call for only a shout-out. I thought it was pretty tragic that he fought with them and then was one of the only wights we “knew” who was seen again.

I think Wun Wun is dead. He died in the courtyard at Winterfell, they almost definitely burned him.

Unless somebody carted Wun Wun's body off to be buried north of the wall, there's no way that could have been Wun Wun. That thing probably just lost its eye because it's a walking corpse lol. Also, we saw at least one giant amongst the army of the dead well before Wun Wun died.

A little behind in the thread but I wanna say I don’t really mind @EASheartsVinyl negative posts. Although some of the posts have frustrated me and I’ve disagreed with almost all of them , at least she’s not calling us stupid for liking something she thinks is dumb. (Unless I missed something on the last 3 pages lol).

Bonus points for loving The Americans

I have definitely tried not to have a go at anyone personally! This forum is way less toxic than most places to discuss the show and I love that even people who love it here can actually talk about the problematic or poorly written aspects openly.

You should read the last 3 pages. The Battle of the GoT thread ended in a Parley.

I'm really kinda messed up on whether or not that was Wun Wun. All i've been reading about at work since mentioning it. It is the same eye missing, but I can accept that the shot of the giant and others walking together as just building tension. There were plenty of other dead giants the Night King could've resurrected, and I can't imagine they transported that giant's body so damn far out to a burial place. Jon has always burned the dead, or followed that tradition since learning of the Night King so I would imagine that's the case. There is no definitive info to prove this though.

whether we want to admit it or not 90% of this thread and pretty much everyone else goes into a new episode with either a negative or positive mindset/bag of expectations and its gonna take something big to sway us away from the side we start on. this is the case for like every fandom ever and has been since the dawn of the internet and we should probably just accept it already lol

It has kind of blown my mind. Him being with them was just so obvious that I never gave it a second thought, even though it obviously doesn’t make much sense now that I have. There are so few giants anyway, it’s bizarre to not differentiate them from our boy. I’ll just pretend it was him because it’s so much sadder.

I'm feeling Lyanna and Edd's loss more and more each minute. Poor Edd and Lyanna.

Finally formulating some of my thoughts from last night...

It looks like the Starks are pretty much the only actual house left in the North. Now that the Mormonts, Umbers, Glovers, the Night's Watch etc. have all been taken out, the North hardly has anyone left aside from the dwindling number of wildlings and citizens of Winterfell. I mean, at this point, do they just set fire to Winterfell to burn all of the bodies and move on or what?

I know the countless fan theories blew Bran and the Night King's relationship way out of proportion, but Bran's story overall has felt a little anticlimactic IMO. He's helped reveal a few important details and he was correct about devising a plan to kill the Night King, but I guess I thought time traveling/warging abilities would be more of a factor in the great war considering how much time we've spent building up his role. What is his story moving forward now that this is all over? I guess they just wanted to protect him at all costs because he's basically an encyclopedia? My perception of his role in the show is a lot different now. I feel like a ton of us way overthought that lol.

I can't say I was all that surprised that so many important characters lived. Some of them (Jaime, Tyrion, The Hound) have to make it back to deal with Cersei and The Mountain. But also, I think this show will end with some sort of revolving door for the throne if there is one left. Instead of having an heir to the throne by birthright, it could be passed from house to house which means a handful of different characters will still make it through to the end. Just a guess.

One character who I don't remember seeing at all after she was seen escorting Bran to the Godswood with Theon was Alys Karstark. She may have made it out, but if she was in the Godswood, Theon was definitely the last man standing which is not good news for Alys.

Edd's death hit me the hardest and surprised me the most, I kinda just assumed he'd mishap his way into surviving it all (which I think would have been a more satisfying conclusion to his arc, but alas)
