Ugh...I have spring break this week so I have off tomorrow, but I have no earthly clue how the hell im gonna go to work next Monday after that episode.
She’s been a ruthless and sadistic killer for most of the run, with literally no interest in romance or sex (or human connection of any kind really), but this season her entire story has been a fanservice love story. Like I guess you could say they’re going for the idea of her being home and with family is helping her be more fully herself again (if that even is “more” her), but it has all really come out of nowhere and feels very jarring and unearned. Like the whole seduction scene just seemed like every time she’s played the game of faces before, because that’s the only way she really knows to interact at this point. And if it’s meant to be sad and heartbreaking and upsetting then I guess that works, but it’s such a fan favorite couple and the show doesn’t seem to be presenting it as anything other than a good thing. And I doubt they have time to get into details of what the relationship means for each/both of them considering everyone is dying in five minutes.
My friend and I were checking off who is going to die based on what they talked about. Making plans for the future? DEAD. Smiling about finally fulfilling a life goal? DEAD.
Didn’t think the Arya thing was jarring at all. She and Gendry already had a thing before they split, and Arya was only a ruthless killer since, what, the end of season 5? She never actually gave up her identity and never even truly wanted to give up her human connection. That’s kinda the whole point of her arc
Okay that’s enough spamming this thread with memes, I’m done I don’t want to strangle any discussion. There are good memes out there knocking on your door, let’s go find them. Ima write up more complete thoughts tomorrow. But for now....Unappreciated scene: Tyrion sitting down to talk to Bran. He wants to know what Bran knows. About him? About Jaime and the mad king? About Cersei? Hmmmmm
Davos and the little girl with the scarred face really fucked me up. Just went back to rewatch that bit and wow
Incredibly strong episode. Credit to the show for allowing an episode to spend so much time with the characters like that. This season is off to a really strong start. I was nervous given how shaky I found season 7.
I mean she’s been on the road to it since the very start. You’re definitely right about her not wanting to give up her identity, what with keeping Needle and her name and stuff, but she’s been almost as lost as Bran for years and that makes all of it hard to swallow. Chalk a lot of it up to bad and rushed writing of course, but the fact that like a week ago she threatened to cut her sister’s face off without batting an eye and the last time she saw Hot Pie she was basically an emotionless robot, but suddenly she’s able to navigate all of her feelings for Gendry with total ease and control, and it seems much more like a means to an end for the story than how this character would actually be reacting.
Bran definitely gonna do some time travel / warg shit with WW or TNK. Notice how he never has tracks behind him in the snow? And they never show him being moved anywhere and no one stays to help him? And Tyrion even asks if he needs help (or whatever) and he says no. I think that’s a hint (along with no tracks ever behind him) that’s gonna pay off big time for helping the fight in the next episode.
Tbf, I don’t even think she has feelings for Gendry right now other than he’s a friend, he’s cute, he knows how to handle a woman, and I’m just trying to get it in once before I die. Maybe she has deeper feelings for him after but it feels like she’s going about it in a very systematic way, not so much all about love or anything
The way she was just chilling in bed wide awake afterwards makes it seem like just taking care of business. No cuddling or anything
Brienne saying she doesn’t want to be a knight and then looking at Pod as he gives her a knowing look and her shifting her eyes away is great
Oh no I don’t see her having deeper feelings for him, although he obviously does for her. There’s definitely no time left for the show to process any of that. If they go for him dying and she’s pregnant I’ll have to Tommen myself for sure. If they could just both live and be cool with each other and they don’t force that story, it will sit better.
Do we think that look Jon gives Dany is disgust/surprise with Dany for even bothering to think about the iron throne at a time like this...or was it actually dawning on him in that moment like holy shit I really do have a claim?
