It's funny cause Jon's real dad is constantly talked about like he was the hottest MF to walk the planet and then he shows up in the show looking like Viserys.

It was also a well known fact that Lyanna could get it so there's no way the hottest in the south and hottest in the north don't make one bangin offspring

Jon is pretty average looking in the books, yeah just like he is in the show. Robb is the good looking stereotypical fantasy hero character much more in the books, and jon’s kinda just a whiny loser. They made him a lot more likable for the show, haha (at robb’s expense imo)

Also iirc grrm said people had guessed both 1) jon’s parentage 2) the way the series ends correctly after only the first book was out

I mean of course it's more obvious in the show but I don't think there's much getting around that. Unless of course they did the show right in 10-11ish seasons and got ALL The story lines in.

Elf refresh my memory because I'm honestly forgetting...what terrible things did Jon do in the book? Outside of being a petulant child the first couple of books (which I think the show did a pretty good job with, at least in season 1), I don't remember there being many moments where he comes off as a "bad guy" that could cloud his image much, just a general immaturity of a 14 year old struggling with trying to be as honorable as his dad but also making decisions to save peoples lives.

Choosing to shoot him all instagram filtery just made that comparison even stronger and stranger. He was so hard to make out that it almost could have been the same actor. Very bizarre decision. I’d like to have seen him more clearly to humanize him and really hammer down that he was a different person from his brother.

Oh yeah some people guessed for sure....but I don't think the casual reader is figuring out those clues beyond having unconfirmed suspicions about it. They just had a really good interview with some of the mega fans that started like towerofthehand or westeros.org or etc. and they all said that people were posting it as theories and kinda saying 'well whaddya think?' and stuff, it doesn't seem like too many people were sure until they all started laying out the evidence and stuff.

I wish I was into the books (and old enough to read them) back then, that must have been exciting as hell to get all these brand new theories figured out among a tight knit internet community like that

The Waif is on the Black Mirror I’m finally getting around to watching and now I’m annoyed. Wish I had never seen that performance.

Yeah I don't know if the showrunners are afraid that if they show too much of Rhaegar they won't "get it right" and get slammed for it by the fanbase or what...But I wish they would have tried. He's such an important part of the story and it would have been nice to get more than just that Branvision.

I am wishing/hoping we get more Jaime/Mad King this episode from Bran to help clear Jaime or something.....but unfortunately I don't think we will.

All the ugly characters in the book are really good looking in the show haha tbf. I don’t actually remember Davos being described as particularly unattractive (I also think he’s only in like his late 30s in the book iirc)

And @David87 the big things they changed are his death and the baby switching but honestly likeable was a bad word choice. I really just meant that they made Jon way too good at everything when in the books Robb is really the star child. Jon is pretty annoying at the start tho lol

It is kind of weird but that's probably somewhat accurate. I was really surprised they went for someone who looked like Viserys and not someone who looked more like Jon since that's what they were trying to get at in that moment, but yeah, since they only showed him for one shot with a heavy filter on it, I guess it doesn't really matter.

Oh yeah, they definitely have that Hollywood Homely trope all over the place. But for Jon specifically, almost all of his characterization early in the series was just being pretty.

He’s also literally Jesus now, so it will be interesting to see if they take that to the logical savior conclusion or try to go for some kind of subversion.

The real question to be asking is absolutely, “What leaves the most room for HBO to make money from this going forward?”

We won't be getting any sequels IMO....it's gonna be all prequels from here on out. GRRM has built a rich world with a lot of stories to tell.

I do wish they'd just announce an anthology series where maybe certain stories do take 2 seasons to tell or something. But this spin off is supposed to be about the Long Night and I'm wondering how many seasons can they conceivably get out of that but I guess we'll see.

The thought I've been having lately is how much different can they really make a Long Night show from the main series? It's another battle against the White Walkers and we know the humans win.

I would fucking love if we get a gnarly battle at Winterfell in ep 2 that is essentially the NK's army testing their defenses that ends with Jon asking where the fuck the NK was for the entire thing, only to have the camera cut to a shot of him flying on Viserion with King's Landing in the background. Not sure why the NK would want to go after Cersei and the south first, but since we don't know anything about his motivations, why the hell not throw a little curveball?

I’m actually on board with this. Not sure how it would play out, but it would at least mix it up for more than “welp, we defeated the night king. Now let’s go fight Cersei.” Although I don’t expect it to go that predictably anyway, it just seems like Jon and Bran’s stories will be much less important if they survive the battle with the dead.
