Absolutely love the sequence of Tyrion watching Jamie on his suicide dash “you fucking idiot.” It was so set up for Jamie to die then.

The ending of that moment certaily unrealistic, but whatever.

Not sure why they didn't have Jamie die there.

Is Sansa the only Stark that hasn’t literally or figuratively died by this point? Arya and Bran are gone, Rickon and Robb are dead dead, and Jon keeps dying but not having it take. She seems to be the only one that isn’t in that position, but I don’t know if that means something in the big picture.

Sansa is def not who she was in the early seasons either, IMO.

I never got the idea that Dany was being held up as “better” in any other way than the fact that she wanted to be a queen who took care of the smallfolk. I never got the impression that meant she wasn’t going to kill people during war to win her crown

Sansa is the only main player fit to rule at the end of this all, imo.

    - Dany’s parade through Slaver’s Bay isn’t exactly a great resume boost, and now she’s going to a land she’s never spent any meaningful time in.
    - Jon has never wanted to rule, which in part makes him a good ruler, but has clearly lost his will to live since literally dying and being resurrected.
    - Arya is too hot headed and wouldn’t want the crown anyways.
    - Bran Flake is stoned outta his mind.
    - Tyrion’s “reign” in Dany’s absence wasn’t much better than Dany’s own, though he does get points for when he was acting as Hand of the King to Joffrey.
    - Jaime is Jaime.
    - Cersei is Cersei.

I think it’s interesting to think about who would have been the best ruler in the end out of every character to exist within the show, past and present. I think I’d have to go with Margarey Tyrell, tbh

Sansa has grown and changed, but she is still basically herself and whole at the end of the day. It’s quite a contrast to the other two surrounding her who have totally lost their humanity along the way.

Politics is a dirty game. It’s unreleastic to think anyone could rule any kingdom without getting their hands a little dirty and somewhat hypocritical. It’s why Ned only lasted 9 episodes.

That scene with I think the Hound and Sansa when he says her father and brother were killers is such a great summation of the political struggle in the show

I have no idea how they would justify that or pull it off, but that thread comparing her to her siblings leading to her taking the throne would be very cool.

I still don’t think anyone actually sitting on it makes much sense, but Sansa getting it and dismantling it or something might be fitting.

I think you could argue that Arya is closest to who she was always destined to become more than any other Stark

  14. Mick

Or maybe not destined, but who she always wanted to be herself.

You have tons of moments like Missandei convincing Davos that she’s fit to rule because they “chose” her, even though they absolutely didn’t, but nothing contradicts her. Then you have Jon who is the absolute clearest “good” guy in the whole show coming around to wanting her as queen. Even Tyrion gives a huge speech about how they are nothing without her and all is lost if she dies. Those are two of the most trusted and liked characters going to bat for her hardcore. And that’s just season seven, without getting into all the previous stories of her being seen as worthy everywhere she goes, sometimes without having to prove a thing. How is that not portraying her as better than other options?

She’s definitely been going down the path of the pure horror villain psychopath since the beginning, for sure. Same with Bran and his three eyed raven stuff from the beginning. I guess maybe the question would be why does every Stark seem to have a destiny that involves losing their humanity and identity for the greater good, with the possible exception of Sansa?

    Because the Stark’s are magic

Lol. But that’s what I mean, is there a reason for Sansa’s story being so different from the entire family, or is it just wishful thinking for there to be something deeper there?

  19. David87

    Prestigious Prestigious

Some combo of Ned and Stannis
I think she is better than the other options based on her desire to basically do away with the current feudal system so that great houses don’t just walk all over the rights of the impoverished. That’s why people seem to be following her.

Beyond that, it’s still a feudal society and one that believes in superstition somewhat, so things like family name or being able to survive fire or “giving birth” to 3 dragons convince a lot of people she’s destined for greatness and meant to be a ruler and etc.

Yeah honestly unless his story has some drastic arc where he is the one who kills Cersei or something beyond with Lady Brienne, it really just made sense.

The rage of Cersei to hear he died at the hands of someone so close to Tyrion, along with the drastic effect it would have on Tyrion to watch, is all worth the moment.

Also, just circumstance. Being promised to Joffrey and under Cersei’s watch in the capital obviously limited Sansa in many ways.
