That's why I'm concerned about this speculated season 8 outline that has the battle against winter ending in episode 3 and then the "battle for the throne" the last 3 episodes. I can't imagine a more anticlimactic or incongruous ending (unless of course there was some kind of final twist).

I feel like this story was made for some kind circular ending.

 

Davos continues to bring logic and reason and clarity and emotion to a painfully long and dull scene that should be anything but. Such a good boy.

 

The over the top attempt to make Euron another Joffrey/Ramsay is so transparent and cheap and ugh it’s so unnecessary.

I forgot to say that Theon flinging himself into the sea was by far the most relatable thing he has ever done.

 

I too, have wanted to fling myself into the sea.

 

Alfie Allen does a fantastic job playing Theon. He's a favorite of mine.

 

Tyrion is basically Ben Franklin in 1776 now. “I have better things to do than sit around and listen to you quite yourself.”

 

The Battle for Winterfell ends with Bran resetting the timeline back to S1E1, and the last three episodes are him correcting the timeline.

 

but when he gets back to the past, he realizes he hasn’t honed his skills entirely and something went wrong because EVERYONE IS NOW WEARING WACKY HATS!

 

Except now Ned can’t play guitar anymore because he injured himself in a horse race accident and Catelyn drinks all the time and Rob is a slacker who gets caught up in a plan to rob the Karstarks with Ramsey.

I honestly don't think they will stick the landing. We've had twoish years to build up what may or may not happen that, whatever happens, everyone will be disappointed. Or because they are not great writers it sucks anyway.

 

Which would be fine if the show didn’t portray her as better than...... anyone.

I’m cringing HARD at the dialogue on this stupid suicide mission. Ouch.

 

The talks between all the characters on the mission are fantastic

 

The first couple seasons are almost entirely concerned with the politics of Westeros, though. So wouldn't the final couple episodes being centered around what happens to the throne and kingdoms be much more circular of a story than the threat of the White Walkers?

But that's a pretty significant character arc of Dany's. Figuring out how to properly rule while still maintaining some humanity and not descending into the ways of her father. I don't think the show portrays Dany as having some high moral compass; the character of Dany sometimes portrays herself this way which is often in direct contradiction to the means in which she must secure her crown.

 

The show does literally kick off with a cold-open featuring the white walkers though.


Still think Gendry ends up sitting on the throne.

 

Dany is definitely intended to be seen as petulant at times, the bigger problem with her arc is just how much spinning in place she does in seasons 4-6

 

Just now realizing that Jon spitting blood in Styr's face during the battle of the Wall is a direct call back to Karl Fookin Tanner doing it to him when they fought.

That’s definitely part of it. But a lot of it is the fact that they so clearly want her to be someone to root for compared to Cersei or something. She’s just as much of a hypocrite and a tyrant as they all are, but the show doesn’t delve into that beyond Tyrion vaguely questioning her a time or two. They still show her off as some super cool woman with a grand claim to everything who is on the “right” side of things at the end of the day.

It’s really noticeable in scenes like when she returns to Dragonstone after murdering the Tarlys and the music swells with this super heroic score because dragons are awesome and Dany is awesome for having them and don’t think about what just happened please.
