Also I love that they wasted two seasons on this insanely boring and problematic Meereen plot only to have Dany straight up, “I must go, my people need me,” outta there on a dragon. Really beautiful use of time there.

I forget how that scene plays out in the books but it definitely wasn't what they did in the show.

And barristan! Dammit they did him dirty too

  4. I get being annoyed that the show didn't do the book justice but when is that ever true of turning a book into a movie/tv?

Some of it can be explained. Others like, turning Drogo/Jaime into a rapist dont. Like, i get why the fifth season is bad; they needed nine seasons but only got eight. They had to expedite a lot of stuff. But like, if you're going to ignore major parts of the books then just dont do it. Stannis isnt a villain, Jon isnt perfect, etc....

There are a ton of adaptations that equal and even surpass their source material. One of the main things you have to do is create your own internal logic to follow even if you decide to leave the source in some aspects. That’s what separates the amazing adaptations from the flawed or terrible ones.

  10. Examples please. I don't know if I've ever seen an adaptation that is better than the original. Curious of what your thoughts are.

I've never read The Leftovers novel but I can't imagine it's better than the greatest show of the decade.

The Meereen plot is what tied GRRM up for so long and caused such a huge delay on Book 5. Dude just couldn't seem to figure it out for the longest time.

And yeah I'm upset about what they did to Ser Barristan.

Tons of the most celebrated films of all time are adaptations, for one thing. Gone With the Wind is pretty much equally regarded as a book and a film, The Godfather is an even better example as the book isn’t very special and the film is certainly one of the greatest. Things like MASH and Forrest Gump made great movies out of books that were just plain terrible. Or like The Shining, where if you love the book you may have huge problems with it, but as a film it’s one of the greatest horror films ever.

TV is the best medium for ensemble storylines. but also, tv is based on mediocre books. Don't think i know of any adapations based on something better than ASOIAF

Isn't it common knowledge that Stephen King wishes he would have come up with the film adaptation's ending of The Mist?

So can dead and buried people be brought back with the army of the dead? I don't know if this is something the book or any history of Westeros covers. Just curious.

Yep. Chuck Palahniuk and Fight Club too.

I haven’t read either (yet), but I feel like Big Little Lies and Sharp Objects both lived up to their books really well and were certainly well received on their own.
