Just recently watched the Thing (2011 prequel) and had no idea he was in it until he appeared.

 

Tormund is a lot weirder than I expected him to be.

 

So what’s the real purpose of making Daario stay behind. Tyrion has got to be in love with Dany right? I know there’s debate on whether that’s the case or not

 

Nah I think he’s right that she can’t bring a paramour with her to Westeros, she needs to be available for a marriage alliance

 

I think people are overthinking the Tyrion thing. Though I prefer those thinking he is in love with her over those who for some silly reason think he's plotting against her

 

I don’t think its entirely wrong to think he loves her, I think there is a twinge of jealousy there at the end of Season 7. But I don’t think it’s impacted any of the decisions he’s made for her. I also buy into the idea that he told Cersei her baby would be named heir because as far as he knows, Dany is barren and can’t have kids. That look on his face may have just been worry about maybe Dany being wrong and if Jon gets her preggers it’ll ruin the deal he made with Cersei

 

I never once got the sense that Tyrion loves Dany. He pretty much swears off women entirely after Shae.

Him seeing her and Jon together was way more about him being concerned about Robb 2.0 where Dany cares more about being with Jon than retaking Westeros.

Also on a meta level he’s being a stand-in for the audience looking apprehensive as Jon fucks his aunt lol

 

On my first watch (which I just finished like a month ago), literally the only major character deaths that I didn't already know happened were Rickon and Littlefinger and it honestly didn't affect my enjoyment whatsoever. I've never really cared much about being spoiled for most things though

 

Yeah I didn’t see it as a jealousy thing at all. Tyrion is maybe the smartest one in Westeros and I think he just knows how dangerous love can be, hence his concern.

Yeah on first watch I didn’t buy into the whole jealousy thing. The only reason I brought it up now was the conversation he had with Dany after she told Daario he had to stay.

i never considered the white savior dynamic with Daeny somehow, that’s a legitimate gripe. i like her though and am surprised to see people say Emilia gives a poor performance.

I don't 100% agree with the white savior thing with her because slavery as far as I can tell in TWOIAF isn't racialized, slaves aren't slaves because of their skin color, but in the part of the world she is in the inhabitants tend to be brown and not white. Jorah sold slaves from Bear Island, after all, and he and Tyrion become slaves themselves temporarily. Like I don't think Dany is trying to save the poor brown people, I think she just abhors slavery as a practice and wants to try to abolish it after she's seen it up close during her time as Khaleesi of a khalisar.

That being said, certainly doesn't help that she's whiter than rice an the slaves she's been fighting to free are def more Middle Eastern/North African looking. It's not the usual 'white person learns how to be less racist' white savior trope but I suppose you could say she's learning how to rule by helping the slaves, so the whole 'learn something while helping darker looking people from their troubles' thing is there. Idk.

 

Oh my god lol, “You can’t execute him. He needs a fair trial. Just kidding, kill this kid in front of everyone because I say so.” Traaaaaaaash.

 

I wish I still had some rewatch, but a business trip to San Antonio forced me through like 3 seasons in a week since I had nothing better to do in my off time...this wait for the new season is almost over, and i'm beyond excited.
