Why would him stating a fact that has been consistent with his first set of dialog in the series be surprising?

If we assume Cersei was only saying she would help to trick Tyrion and Dany, she could have pretended that was what it took. Especially since she knows Tyrion knows (or at least thinks) that her children mean more to her than power.

Yeah I didn't even think about the possibility of Jamie telling Jon, Dany, and Tyrion about Cersei having no plans to keep her word. I would hope they already know that though. Who knows.

I could see Tyrion knowing that but the others seemed genuinely convinced. Actually, the writing has been so bad for much of this last season that I was genuinely convinced too.

I don't think he was trying to tear it apart, though. He killed Tywin because Tywin hated him, was sentencing him to death for a crime he didn't commit, and fucked the only woman Tyrion loved. Cersei was doing the same to him. He wanted out and found hope with Dany.

I think Tyrion would sacrifice himself to death before he ever betrays Dany to side with Cersei.

Tyrion even tried to help Joffrey for a time.

Yeah Tyrions look was definitely not one of guilt for betrayal. I think he's had a vision for Dany for awhile (peaceful takeover, more democratic approach to ruling, etc.) and Jon coming in could potentially fuck all that up for more reason than one. Especially if he thought he had the chance to rule one day in the new system.

I meant like shouldn't that sort of be his goal now? Not to worry about harming his family, but in fact probably look to inflict damage? I'm having trouble explaining.

I think his goal is to save his family. Or Jaime at least. It's just Jaime and Cersei at this point.

Someone at work said this season of Game of Thrones was way too slow.

Good point, I actually have to remind myself of that fact when thinking about all of this - whatever they may have discussed, she's not going for it anyways. Which says really, that very little was promised from Tyrion that we didn't see, because otherwise they'd have written in the fact Cersei was betraying a number of people rather than a couple and an unspoken betrayal of a brother we know she has a disdain for. I can't imagine they'd leave that so ambiguous when they're so forthright about the various forms of betrayal she's exposed for during the exact same episode.

Tyrion moping as part of the unrequited love squad didn't even cross my mind. I think back to Tyrion's conversation with her about a successor. He sees Dany cementing who will rule beside her. That's a huge deal with big ramifications. Something that should concern, for better or worse, the hand of the queen. That's what I took from that scene.

I agree with this, especially because of what the directors said after the show. The whole parentage reveal mixed with the sex scene had a weird vibe to it. You weren't sure if you should be excited that Jon is heir to the throne or that Jon and Dany finally got together OR if you should be weirded out by it because they were related. Hell, I wasn't even sure if maybe they were trying to say it was a GOOD thing that Jon and Dany hooked up despite their relation because they are Targaryens.

Seemed like Tyrion's look at the end was just to show "This isn't going to end well" for one reason or another. It's been shown over and over that relationships get in the way, and when Dany finds out that Jon takes away her given right to the thrown, it's bound to cause problems.

Yeah, Tyrion's look came off as "this is going to end poorly" to me.

I am still coming to terms with how long we have to wait for the final season. I have to imagine HBO will get it out sooner if they can get away with it. What are the odds the finale gets paired with a teaser for whatever spinoff they choose?

That loneliness is not a function of solitude.

I've read in a few places that every episode in the last season might be 80+ minutes. Have the directors actually said anything about this? I would be super down for 6 movie length episodes to finish up the story.

Kind of piecing several theories together here, but what if Tyrion promised Cersei that her child would marry Dany's child, knowing that supposedly Dany can't have kids? So when he sees Jon and Dany having sex he feels guilty that he stretched the truth to his sister.

There's also the bit where Jon says to Dany that the witch could have been wrong about her inability to have children. So what if she does get pregnant? What if Cersei dies in child birth? I'm not sure where I'm going with this because it doesn't really all add up. There's a lot of levels to this the more I think about it.

Sorry if this has already been posted, it seemed like a lot of people voiced similar theories but wasn't sure.

I wouldn't say that for sure. I'd be more inclined to say she's not surviving childbirth.
