I'm surprised the reaction is divisive/negative. The Jon/Dany sex scene was atrocious but everything else worked for me (obviously).

Criticism of an episode is fine, criticism of others for enjoying it is asinine

When I praise this show it's in the context of this show. When I say it's brilliant or near-flawless or whatever, that's grading on the Game of Thrones curve. Game of Thrones is a show I think is entertaining and good, but also inconsistent and nowhere near the top of what the medium of television has to offer as an art form.

I thought it was fantastic and will hold up a lot better than the last few (which I liked at the time more than I liked after a rewatch). The Tyrion-Cersei and Jon-Theon scenes were awesome

 

Is it ever actually said how the Night King could have ever gotten by the wall before? It was kind of hinted at that he had left his mark on Bran so maybe the magic of the wall was broken or that the ocean would freeze and they would walk around....but they never actually said any of that.

Am I missing something or could they have stopped the Night King from getting across the wall by, ya know, doing nothing? They went on the other side and handed him the tool he needed to take the wall down.

Honestly, the Euron to Essos reveal is something I really should've seen coming, but really did surprise me. It's also a huge fuckin' wrinkle for a six episode season.

Still trying to figure out if the pregnancy is a power move (which now fails because Jaime left anyway, and she didn't try to use the baby to get him to stay enough for me to believe it's real) or if she's actually pregnant.

Surprised Game Of Thrones got away with so badly ripping off the character of Sindragosa, former consort to Malygos, leader of the Blue Dragonflight, who was later raised from the dead as a Frost Wyrm by the Lich King himself

 

Well if each of those six episodes push 2 hour running time we will have enough

 

The visual spectacle of the closing scene was awesome, but if Tormund and Beric died I'd be bummed their last shot was them looking worried they might fall

Absolutely. And in that regard I did enjoy the episode quite a bit. But the series has largely been something more than that. It's mindless entertainment has been largely reserved for filler and mid-season antics, not centering around pivotal moments of the series.

 

Solid finale, and HUGE improvement over last week. Theon was the true MVP.

Loved seeing Littlefinger grovel. Wonder if Gendry was at the wall.

 

I do like how everyone is returning to Winterfell where it all began to face the end. The show has been good at riding the long symmetry arcs.

 

yup, 100%. it was never the best show on television but it was always smart enough around GAAM's writing to put it above shows like the walking dead. this season has jumped the shark into true (enjoyable) dumb television realm.

 

Okay now that my mind isn't clouded by that last scene of blue flame, I'm starting to remember more things that happened.

What exactly happens when Jaime walked out? She looked at The Mountain and gave the nod, and I was terrified that that was it for Jaime. But then he said "I don't believe you" and walked out right past FrankenMountain. Was that not the go ahead she gave? Just a nod to get the sword ready?

 

The finale didn't suck. I think the show will redeem itself from the lull.
