Agreed. Friend I watched it with, when the last scene opened with the wights pulling the chains said, completely sincerely, "Why are they doing that?"

Yeah for the casual viewer who doesn't read forums or read the books, Jon's father is not an easy thing to catch by that one flashback. My first watch I would have had no idea if it weren't for reading online stuff and watching it with a group of 5-6 diehards when it was revealed last season.

Other characters or viewers of the show being aware of his parentage is NOT confirmation. Confirmation is HBO releasing an official infographic telling you that it's the case.

    This is EXPLICIT proof:

Everyone I know watches this show. I don't know anyone who goes to HBO.com for infographics or is aware of the John Snow being related to Danny thing. They still need to have someone confirm it with dialog in the show for most of the viewers, not just the super geeks.

Sorry to say, but your friends are dense. Every person I know and actually pays attention to the show is aware of this. Then again they also have me as a friend. My supervisor at work just flew through every season in 2 weeks. I'll ask her when she gets in if she can tell me who Jon's parents are.

But all of this is not the point. The gentleman I was debating with claims it's not official. I'm sorry but just because people are dense and can't figure it out despite blatant clues in the show does not mean it's not official. Official =/= widely known. Does that mean relativity isn't official since not everyone knows or understands it?

I consider myself a fairly hardcore fan/watcher of the show (and have read the books) and I had no idea that graph existed.

You probably didn't need a graph to know R+L = J if that's the case.

    This is also true, ha.

I think more than anything that it'll be a cool moment when Jon (or anyone) actually says it out loud and acknowledges it. It's gonna be wild.

Yeah I'm very pumped for the characters to find out, that will be awesome. If hundreds of viewers also find out at the same time as Jon Snow on who his parents are, then their re-watch will be awesome when they see the clues.

I also wouldn't say they're dense if they don't know his parents. I've watched the show twice and still don't know some of the names of minor characters. If you take pride in knowing more about a show than someone else, lol.

I mean, telling someone their friends are dense isn't telling a "hard truth", that's just being rude lol

It still doesn't make sense to me that they've eliminated Roberts Rebellion as a prequel possibility. That shy deserves a 12 episode season, lots of time spent in the False Spring and at The Tourney of Harrenhall

Also GRRM said he saw his editors and publishers again. Seems like he's been checking in frequently these days, or is that normal for him? Hopefully he's dropping off chunks of TWOW to be edited

I don't think it's anyone's intention to argue the meaning of "official". haha. Yes, it's confirmed and true, but within the show, itself, they are still just dropping hints (as "blatant" as they may be). They obviously still feel like they have something left to build up to and that is why it will eventually be said explicitly. I don't know why this is even a debate. No need to insult people that don't care or think about this show enough.

Also I think it's strange D&D call Benjen "Coldhands" since GRRM says Benjen is NOT Coldhands....I wonder if he's lying about that to at least make the reveal in the book be somewhat surprising, or if D&D just combined the two characters and decided to call him Coldhands instead of Benjen.

So with the finale coming up this weekend, what are some of your favorite episodes/scenes/lines from the season?

Obviously the loot train battle and everything about it was awesome. All of Bronn's lines in that episode were great.

The scene in the cells with Cersei and Ellaria & Tyene was super intense too. So much emotion.

Tyrion's brief conversation with Jaime beneath the Red Keep was also great. Dinklage's acting in that scene was so visceral, almost on a personal level.

The siege of Highgarden and Olenna's final scene were both amazing.

Underrated scene: Sam playing Operation on Jorah lol
