Great way to kill a character and keep the actor.

Why have Jon slip and go underwater, and then have all the characters leave, his fate uncertain, just for him to come back 5 minutes of screentime later? That's just not good drama

  3. They had to resolve benjen, basically

Benjen's sole purpose at that point is to watch over the Stark children. He did it for Bran and he did it for Jon. He was kinda stuck in the in-between-life-and-death stage since the Children stopped him from turning into a wight with their magic. The Children are dead. It's either sit around in the frozen wastes north of the wall or resolve what he sees as his only purpose for living. And he did. Yeah, it felt forced but it had to happen.

People would have been complaining about "Where's Benjen/Coldhands???" if he was to never show up again.

They can still milk Jon's return to the crew! Make Dany and Tyrion and Davos all sweat and anguish. Lots of fun stuff you can do with the implication that the King in the North might be dead, play with some dramatic irony. I know the show is moving at a pace that doesn't really allow for that though.

At least Beric and Thoros got me a ton of points in fantasy this week.

Speaking of fantasy, i'm going to draft the Night King as my quarterback and Gendry as my running back in my actual fantasy league

at this point there's no sense in dragging that out over the course of a few episodes because there's only 1 left this season and he will be pretty critical in the meeting with cersei i believe.

i think it was stupid to "tease" or whatever you wanna call it, his death yet again, but i guess for dramatic effect they felt it necessary, to maybe give some emotion to Dany.

i think showing emotion almost makes her look weak. i totally wouldnt have expected her to be someone standing out overlooking the tundra just hoping to see him come riding out of the bushes like she did.

I want the letter to Sansa from Kings Landing to surface. Wanna know what Cersei was saying to try and convince her to come down.

If The Hound can throw a fucking rock and knock a wights jaw off, they can use arrows and end the series.

Only thing I can think of is they saw Gendry run off, assumed that backup would be coming, and waited so they could grow their army more in a victory, but that's real iffy logic

Yeah it's just spotty writing. Has to be. No way they put that much thought into it haha. They didn't even see Gendry run off did they?

  17. Having no Bran is the most annoying part of this episode for me. Also, obviously when Dany went to the rescue a dragon was going to die and come back as an ice dragon.

Alrighty I was gone from the thread for a while, but still I extend my thanks to people who were all extremely respectful with spoilers for the last week.

Very good ep. Though honestly I was a little disappointed with the lack of conflict resolution. I feel everyone got away pretty scott free, and I'm wondering perhaps that was the point.

The finale might be a blood bath.

Also that last shot was worth all the hype.

    Poor Thoros:tear:

It makes sense that Arya and Sansa would have some tension considering the different paths they've taken, but the death threats over a letter Sansa was clearly forced to write is way too dramatic, even for an assassin school drop out. I'm thinking they've gotta be setting up Littlefinger for something, why else would Sansa send Brienne away?

Yeah that was probably my biggest problem with the ep. I thought for sure the Night King would have plans for him. Somehow Jon escapes next season, and rejoins the crew in a dramatic fashion. No he returns immediately.

Also even though I was disappointed with the ep it was worth it for the multiple interactions of the group beyond the wall.

    Esp the Hound/Tormund

I was so hopeful Rhaegal would be the one to come back and save Jon from the retreating wights.

The Vale is their own Kingdom, not a part of the North.
how is the faceless magic being inconsistent?
literally all that has to happen is for Arya to tell Sansa how she got the scroll.
"I was following LF around while he did some shady stuff. Maester Wolkan gave him this, then I stole it from his room."
"oh, so he was playing us. Let's kill him."
    "oK"

They didn't kill Rhaegal because Drogon has to kill Viserion like Drogo killed Viserys IRL

Upon rewatch, I enjoyed this episode a lot more. Still have some issues with things, but also picked up on a couple other little things that sort of absolve the things I was upset about after first watching (at least, until I see how they play out in the finale). My major issue is that they seem to be overwriting and underwriting certain aspects of the show in which I think there are a lot of incredibly simple resolutions (example: if you're going to completely ignore Bran and not take advantage of the abilities of his character, why not simply write it where he is back in a coma of sorts, unable to communicate, whilst he "downloads" the info he's obtaining from the Three Eyed Raven? He's essentially having the entire history of Westeros shoved into his brain, it's reasonable to think that may be something that takes a little bit of time and renders you in a state of unconsciousness).
