Breaking Bad, like Thrones are both amazing. The difference between those two and what I consider as my favorite shows is that my favorite shows I've connected with on a deeply personal level, whereas Thrones and BB I just love for straight up fun and entertainment (which is perfectly fine). And I'm not saying they can't hit you on a personal level, just that in my experience they haven't.

This is my point of view as well. The cast is phenomenal.

I was having this same discussion with some friends last Saturday, and I was finding that a lot of people thought Breaking Bad was boring. I do remember there being a lot of arcs during the show where it got a little slow and somewhat bland, but when it was good, it was REALLY good.

If we're being honest, Bob's Burgers is better than all these shows put together.

If you open up the field beyond dramas, Game of Thrones plummets even more. Mad Men, the Wire, the Sopranos, Twin Peaks, Six Feet Under, obviously, but then Bojack Horseman, Atlanta, the Simpsons, Cheers, Parks & Rec, Friday Night Lights, 30 Rock, Party Down, Adventure Time, Seinfeld, Rick and Morty, Nathan for You, Girls, there's a lot of legitimately great stuff. Successful sitcoms generally run longer than dramas though so quality issues arise with like, the Simpsons and Friends, while dramas are so focused on their central plot and theme that they don't always suffer as badly. But the highs of a classic sitcom, even one with flawed seasons like Friends or Seinfeld, or even the Office, really leave a mark.

None of this to say Game of Thrones isn't good. Just that I would place it comfortably below the best shows that have ever aired.

Comparing dramas to comedies is rather weird. There are totally different things I get out of watching Game of Thrones vs watching Parks and Rec, and so I watch them for very different reasons.

Yeah lets not get crazy here. Game of Thrones has successfully done things that no other TV show in history has been able to pull off from a production standpoint. I mean, when you talk about episodes like Battle of the Bastards, Loot Train, and Hardhome, you can't really compare a Parks and Rec episode to it, as much as I absolutely love Parks and Rec.

Game of Thrones isn't one of the best TV shows of all time simply because it's entertaining or from a storyline perspective. It's one of the best shows of all time because of how it's totally reshaped what you can actually do with a TV show. That's important, especially as we continue to see this shift from the silver screen to network television/streaming devices in your home.

If Friends is not good, then HIMYM is hot garbage

Seasons 1-3 of HIMYM are endlessly rewatchable and I'd ride for 4-5 any day. That said, haven't watched a single ep since the finale aired.

For sure. That was one of my favorite shows at the time, but I definitely felt like I was being strung along the last few seasons. It should have ended at about Season 6.

Also +1 for That 70s Show. Probably near the top of the laugh-track shows.

That 70s Show is not as good as Friends, but none of them hold a candle to the classic sitcoms...All in the Family, I Love Lucy, The Jeffersons, etc

Comparing Breaking Bad to Game of Thrones is nonsense. Breaking Bad is prone to diminishing returns on rewatches because it's built on the emotional turmoil it puts you through, it is at it's core a suspense series. How will Walt's house of cards come down, and who will it take with him. Game of Thrones features worse writing, worse acting, and oftentimes worse direction. It is endlessly rewatchable though, because it's twists and turns are frequent, it's escapism rather than based in reality, and it's fucking beautiful and features a TV trope cast of attractive people. I love them both and would sooner watch GoT again than Breaking Bad, but Breaking Bad is superior as art imo
