How has the father not been revealed!?

I meant earlier that Rhaegar is hardly mentioned in the show - they mention him in passing a handful of times but if you don't already know what happens during Robert's Rebellion, the show does not really do that much to explain it. It outright shows you that Lyanna is Jon's mother, but they've never explicitly said that Rhaegar is his father (they've just gotten 99% of the way there). If you're familiar with the events of Robert's Rebellion, then yeah, it's hard not to see who his father is. But if you don't read up outside the show and don't remember one line from Season 1 where Robert mentioned killing the prince and starting the war over Ned's sister...I can see how you might miss it.

Also, as stupid as it was...I heard multiple people tell me after last season that they weren't sure if it Rhaegar or The Mad King was the dad.

Based solely on my overhearing people around the office talk about the show every Monday, most people can't even pronounce Arya's name correctly let alone figure out which never-shown characters are Jon's parents.

In their defense, Arya is mispronounced in the show most of the time too.

    I'd definitely put it below:

    The Wire
    The Sopranos
    Deadwood
    The Leftovers
    Rome

    I'd probably put it below:

    Six Feet Under

I'd have it definitely below Wire and Sopranos. Maybe below Deadwood. On par with Leftovers and Six Feet Under at least. It's certainly above Rome.

Nah Rome's incredible, watch it again (especially season 2). Game of Thrones wouldn't even exist without Rome.

GoT wouldn't exist without Rome but that doesn't make it better. Rome was good. By no stretch was it better than GoT though.

Woke up and learned that there are people who consider Twin Peaks one of the greatest shows ever made. Huh.

I haven't seen it all but I've seen it mentioned as one of the best frequently.

Still disagree. The storytelling is more thematically tight even with an expanded setting that's just as big as Westeros. Smaller cast but just as many great characters (Titus, Caeser, CLEOPATRA, Mark Antony, Cato, Timon) as GoT -- even with the added caveat that most of them are based on real people and stuck to those lines. It does a better job with time jumps without sacrificing character development. Added bonus, it looks just as incredible than GoT from a costuming and staging perspective (minus some of this season's landscape shots), even though it was filmed over a decade ago with about a tenth of the budget that GoT has.

Same. I'm a few episodes from finishing season two and the more I watch, the more this opinion downright baffles me.

I've heard it pronounced a couple different ways. Do we know for sure which is the correct way?

Probably the wrong thread to ask why in, but I am genuinely curious.

I appreciate that it's the single weirdest thing (especially the new season) to ever air on TV.

It's unfiltered art (again, the new season. The S1+2 were comprised with other writers and the network and such).

It's the least predictable thing to ever air on TV. No one knows what the hell is going to happen next except for David Lynch.

It's got interesting and unique characters, some of them important, some of them have 1 scene and are never shown again.

It blends comedy, mystery, and horror like no other.

    etc etc etc

As you can see by my avatar, big Twin Peaks guy. The highs of Twin Peaks are unlike any other, it just has these absolutely incredible moments that not many shows ever reach. That being said, it's nowhere near as consistent as The Sopranos, Mad Men, The Wire (my top 3). But Twin Peaks might be the most fun I have watching a show, and leaves me awe struck more than any other show I know. The new season is shaping up to be one of my favorite seasons of anything ever

The current season cements Twin Peaks as one of the best things to ever air on TV. One of cinema's all-time geniuses is putting his vision on TV every week. It doesn't get much better.

Breaking Bad is one of the greats but it is at the bottom of what I classify as "one of the greats."

Breaking Bad was a great show but I have never felt the need or desire to go back and watch it again. I don't think I've ever seen any episode more than once and I'm fine with that.

I could not imagine only watching Thrones once, there are so many references and ties to the past that one watch-through doesn't do it justice. Maybe that's the case with BB too and I'm missing out, though.

BB absolutely has some of TV's best work. Ozymandias, for example. Plus it was consistently one of the best acted shows ever. Which makes it easy to convince people to overlook its flaws.
