Also are we to assume that our Goon Squad going north of the wall all have Valyrian weapons? I mean I know they were mining Dragon Glass but I don't think they made weapons out of it yet...

So like, what's up with Grey Worm and Yara?

 

I'll be honest. The time hopping does bother me. It's in contrast with previous seasons. It's jarring. For such a successful show it's an odd thing to do, but probably because of not having the source material now to fill in the gaps. Idk. So far I'd say this is my least favorite season. Something about it is a little off. I find myself thinking that GRRM would have never written that quite a bit. Even though the show has diverged quite a bit it always would parrallel or tie back in to a degree. Feels different this time.

True. Season 5 should probably still hold that crown.

I just prefer the deliberate pace of the first 6 seasons. It feels like fast forward has been hit.

 

it's definitely different but "grrm wouldn't have written this" isn't a defense that holds up to me because he's written some real terrible, tedious, unnecessary stuff. some real great stuff too, but while obviously the story is his work, he's got some real glaring flaws as a writer and storyteller.

 

So did this series just have its "Why didn't the eagles drop the Hobbits off at mount doom" moment? Why the balls would a small team of badass humans be sent to capture a wight from the wight army instead of just sending a dragon to scoop one up? Either ridden by both Dany and Jon or Warg'd by Bran? Matter of fact, why not send all dragons to scorch as much of the entire army as possible?

 

My guess is Dany still doesn't truly believe in them yet, and even if she does, her main concern is still winning the Iron Throne and she doesn't wanna risk the dragons fighting what she still sees as someone elses fight right now.

And my guess is Tyrion or Varys or both of them would argue against her going north with a dragon to fight some undead demi-god right now lol

I wouldn't rule it out though. They show Dany looking out of the cliffs all concerned and shit, and Tyrion looking like he's abotu to tell her to stop thinking stupid shit.

 

The Suicide Squad is going to get trapped somewhere, Daenerys is going to defy Tyrion's advice and swoop in on Drogon to save the survivors (whoever they may be) at the last second. This ain't rocket science, y'all.

 

So they basically slipped in the fact that Rhaegar and Lyanna were actually married. Which means Jon Snow isn't actually a bastard. Meaning that he has claim to the Iron Throne over Dany.

 

Correct. So he technically has a stronger claim than Dany.

 

The majority of series I've ever seen always have a hiccup as they round the corner to the last lap. I struggle to think of any that don't. It is a flaw, sure, but a near universal one at that. If this was season four, we'd have a problem. This is expected this late in the game though.

 

I have no idea about Yara but Grey Worm and the Unsullied are probably holding Casterly Rock and as a result, Lannisport. Even though we didn't see any of this, that's probably where Dany and the Dorhraki made land since there wouldn't have been an army to stop them.

 

Legally speaking, neither one of them have any claim. You can't base a claim off conquest and then ignore someone taking it by conquest. Easily my least favorite part about Dany's character. Just do what Jon did. "I'm better. Literally fight me irl."

 

I think when people say Jon "has the best claim," they mean among those who still consider the Targaryens to be the rightful monarchs.

 

Really? Too bad you're not in Westeros to clear up all of this confusion, could have avoided this whole mess.

Eh, yeah I suppose I'm just assuming that a large number of Westerosi people still support Daenerys' claim after so many people in the books and on the show have kinda suggested that's the case. And I'm sure many more that previously didn't support Daenerys no do considering how many people have to outright hate Cersei at this point.

 

I always knew Gilly was the smartest person in the show

This episode just proved it

 

Personally I am loving the breakneck pace of this season.
