I love those little condensed thumbnail versions of each episode. I died laughing when Jon said he had just been down there painting them beforehand.

I think we're going to see Varys try to manipulate Tyrion against Dany this week. The Melisandre scene got me thinking that he isn't fully behind Dany's cause and this past episode/next week's preview reinforced that. Tyrion and Varys break the Casterly Rock news to her on the beach then she gets mad at Tyrion for his plans and proceeds to ask Jon what to do. When she does that, Varys shoots Tyrion a look that screams "are you going to let her lean on this new guy for advice over you, her Hand?". There's also the scene with LF in the Throne Room in Season 3-ish (the same one as the "chaos is a ladder" quote that was referenced this past episode) when LF asks him what he wants and he stares at the Iron Throne, as well as a few other examples. The preview shows them having conversations about "making her listen" and I think it's going to be the start of Varys' betrayal.

Yeah if they wanted to include like a funny made up blooper/gag reel on the season 7 bluray, they should definitely have a quick scene of Jon painting one, and then kind of getting panicked and stopping for a few seconds because he thinks he hears someone coming, looks back over his shoulder for a bit, and then goes back to painting.

Did it bother anyone else to see Dany ask Jon for advice? I don't know, something about her desperation didn't sit right with me. Her character had always been so tenacious and resolute that I guess it just really caught me off guard. Yes I understand she had just suffered two catastrophic defeats, but it still didn't feel like the Dany we've come to know.

Also, the line that Bran used 'Chaos is a Ladder' is the same phrasing Littlefinger used when talking to Varys in season 3...to me this shows that Bran sees ALL, and just let Littlefinger know.

She's also been informed of how efficient Jon Snow has been on the battlefield. Fought against the White Walkers, Kept Castle Black from invasion, took back Winterfell....She was ready to get advice from a winner.

Not really, she's basically got no reliable advisors in the realms of the battlefield. She may have some tacticians and friends but no actual warrior advisors - which is basically what Jon specialises in so it makes sense.

She still doesn't know Tyrian super well, and I could understand her thinking his judgment is compromised. It sort of confirmed it when he was telling Jaime to flee...supports Dany's hesitation in fully trusting him.

Exactly. And for that reason, I think there was part of her that thought Jon was going to tell her what she wanted to hear, but he didn't. As much as she's gotten frustrated with Tyrion, it kept her from being angry with him since an outsider as respected and successful as Jon essentially agreed that attacking King's Landing goes against everything she's done thus far.

Sorry to rehash an old discussion, but confirmed no gold was harmed during this last battle? Cersei's debt is paid and the only thing lost were food, horses, and men?

I really think it is a direct result from her 2 major defeats. Although she had some tough moments in Meereen, I would consider these her worst losses. She was caught off guard and outsmarted in real war (especially since every one tells her she can march right in and do anything she wants). She doesn't want to lose while being THIS close, so why not ask the man she's just learned to be a war hero (and *clears throat* a handsome dude she seems to have a slight interest in)? The desperation makes sense and gives credibility to what Cersei is doing.

Plot twist: at the end of the last episode, Jaime was actually saved by Gendry.

I don't think that showed his judgement being compromised. Jaime is still his brother, and the only family he's ever really been close to. he just wanted him to gtfo and not get roasted. he approved of Dany's plan enough to go along to the battle. maybe he didn't expect Jaime to be with the tail end of the army.

also, Varys betraying Dany now just feels too easy/sloppy, idk.

Varys isn't betraying Dany. Varys and Littlefinger have played off each other the entire series and it's no coincidence one went fire and one went ice. I took Mel's warning to mean Varys chose the right side but will die because of it.
