I never thought there was much build-up for them being so powerful. Granted, the build-up exists in the books, but they would've killed Jaime and Bronn in the books so we may as well regard them as different characters. I just didn't get the complaint, my bad. I also hated the Sand Snakes haha. I don't disagree that their deaths seemed meaningless. As for Euron - Books.
This episode teetered closer to "dumb got" over "intelligent got" than I would have liked. In particular as much I have appreciated missandei and grey worm's relationship, that scene felt like it belonged back in one of the first few seasons and in this shorter season just felt irritatingly unnecessary for as long as it went on.
I'm with you. The books are probably why I'm disappointed with the snakes deaths. Its more of a carryover of how they've handled Dorne in general in the show. So, and I understand's Euron's skill and ruthlessness referred to in the books, but what makes you think he is a warrior on the level of the Hound, the Mountain, or Jamie (previous to hand removal). I just don't remember him beating the level of competition of some of these other characters. Although you did say living.
I'd say Jon choking out and untrustworthy person and telling them not to make any sexual advances towards his sister, especially after what she's gone through, is pretty important.
Oh okay then yeah you get it and your disappointment is completely justified haha. I get why you expected different now haha. Jaime lost his hand so he doesn't count, the Mountain's biggest asset was his access to armor, honestly. Oberyn would've had him pretty quickly otherwise. As for the Hound, Brienne beat the Hound. Brienne won't stoop as low as Euron as quickly so he gets the edge over her. Euron isn't the fastest or the strongest or the biggest asshole but he is definitely the best mixture of the three. Though I don't remember when this revelation in the book took place, now that I think about it lol.
It was so validating for them as humans and moving them forward as more than former slaves. It was beautiful.
There's an argument to be made for Tormund as the greatest fighter. Obviously he doesn't have the training of others but he's show to be pretty tough to take down. Only time he's "lost" is at the Battle of Castle Black
I think the show has set up Jon as one of the greatest living swordsman. Kinda crazy because he's still pretty much just a kid in the books hah
You know, thinking about this and in particular, how Bryan Cogman is only half as clever as he thinks he is, I think this was actually a very significant moment. I'd bet money we were just told how Littlefinger is going to die. (And it won't be Jon who does it)
His difference isn't that he's the best swordsman, he's the best leader and best warrior. Tormund and Brienne would both defeat him, I completely believe that. I think that's also the point. The old generation preaches ruling by fear while Dany and Jon more or less refuse to do that. It wouldn't be right for Jon to be the strongest person alive.
Episode was excellent, I truly don't get some of the silly criticisms. Favorite scene was Dany pressing Varys. Such good call backs to the few shitty things Varys did before turning over a new leaf. She's really become a "Targaryen", long hair and all. Worst part was Euron's blue screen intro. Super corny. Other than that it was excellent.
Rewatching now....remembering how much I hate Qyburn for ruining Balerion's skull and will be so mad if they take out a dragon with that thing.
Agreed. Felt like seasons of sexual tension being unleashed. Friend goes "they both have very nice butts."
I hate how every time this show goes "Oh hey here look this plan by the good guys might actually work out" by the end of the episode (or maybe a few episodes later) it goes "lol nope psyche that's what you get for getting your hopes up lol" Where by hate I mean its part of why the show is so entertaining Not looking forward to how the Arya/Sansa reunion carrot gets yanked away next week though
Everyone keeps saying we're getting Arya/Sansa next week but I didn't see any Arya in the previews....my guess is Arya disappears for an episode while we catch up with the Brotherhood and Bran. Jon/Dany is probably going to get a LOT of screen time next episode too. Then Arya gets to Winterfell in episode 4.
It just hit me that Jon is traveling to Dragonstone, where Varys is located. Jon is currently keeping certain company in Winterfell. Varys was there when said certain company held a knife to Ned Stark's throat. Varys isn't a big fan of said certain company.
It's funny actually that Nymeria showing up was criticized as it sparked a long train of thought for me. I arrived at the conclusion that Arya will be the only surviving Stark and I'm leaning about 65/35 that she's on the throne in the end. Anyway. That was way too much thought and way too many beers in this human. Goodnight everyone, I'll see you in five hours to complain about my poor life choices. P.S. If Arya dies next Sunday someone be a pal and take me out on Monday. Thank you. P.S.S. David, I didn't even think about that. All bets on Jon having Sansa execute Baelish.
