Months away is a good sign. I figured we'd get it late next year. Months could still be December or some shit.
I burned through the first three books over the summer of 2014, then it took me nearly a year to finish AFFC, which is no fault of its own, more on me. I burned myself out a bit on reading the first three in three months or so and I spoiled AFFC (and ADWD) for myself along the way. I actually recently decided to start over ADWD as I was only a little less than half way through it since 2015 and didn't remember much of anything as I had been treading water through it for two years. I have a lot of thoughts on the series (how can one not) but I love the books. Certainly better than the show, but the show is still a fun watch. Would love to discuss the books with you sometime. Actually, would love to discuss the books more with people on here, but the thread of ASOIAF really doesn't get much traction at all so I've mostly kept to myself on here. At this point, here's my subjective and unimportant ranking that nobody asked for: Storm > Clash > Feast > Game
You're reading them at about the pace grrm is writing, then! Haha, I don't blame you though - affc is definitely a slower read than the others, and adwd isn't much faster. Let me know when you finish that one and we'll talk!
I honestly kinda regret how quickly I went through the first few books. I kinda wanna go back and re-read the series at a slower pace and from a different headspace/perspectice. I certainly fell victim to the idea of "Oh, well, I think this POV is boring so I'm gonna go on autopilot a bit now" with some characters and my opinions on a handful of characters changed over time, so I'd like to re-read their stories with a different perspective now
I don't think he will ever top Storm. But honestly, few authors in the genre may ever top that one. Dance is my second favorite by a pretty wide margin though.
i read the first book two years ago and started the second one, got stuck in a bran chapter, kept returning to it but getting bored with the bran chapter, ended up giving up on it
I've been wanting to start the books, but think I will wait until there is at least an announcement for Winds of Winter.
If he's a few months from finishing tWoW and publishing moves at its normal speed, we may see it Nov 2018.
I just rewatched this for this season after not watching for like 3 years. Now I'm remembering all the ways the books were better and wanting to re read them but also not wanting to do the slog
I don't think I'll ever re-read the books. I don't need to read 800 pages of Danearys shitting herself in the desert and 1600 pages of GRRM's nipple descriptions. Neither the books or show are great. Both can be great and have been great a few times. I like the show better.
I just don't want to get burned starting this late and still have to wait, haha (sorry to everyone who's been waiting since 1996).
