I didn't read the books. I don't remember other people mentioning that who read them either. So that Jamie-Tyrion was always dumb then.
there's definitely debate as to what Valonqar actually means and who it refers to. that's the magic of prophecies (especially in this series).
I agree with that. I think that was a huge reason why they cut off his hand; His character was humbled and it was the immediate start to his new arc. He saves Brienne and starts that whole dynamic, immediately changing your perspective by explaining to her that he wasn't just a "backstabber"; he killed the Mad King to save everyone else. You start to see him in a different light even though he's still an idiot with Cersei (the whole rape scene keeps him from being a "good guy", I'd say).
It's not an arc in this sense. It's a complete departure from what happened in the books to the point where it's a conscious erasure of that redemption arc.
You can disagree with how they are going about it, but I think the point was that he's still written that way (whether it's well-written or not). His trajectory changed midway through the show and now he's at the point where he really wants to do the right thing, but his relationship with Cersei is still holding him back overall...something he is currently wrestling with. So basically, he was a "bad guy" for a few season, then he became a "good guy". It might not have been as well done as in the books, but whatever.
What if somehow it ends with Cersei sitting on the throne...everyone else dead. That would be SO game of thrones to hype Dany up for 6 seasons to just lose once she arrives. Ohhhh the riots hahaha
That would be such an eff all of you viewers move. Perhaps Martin will take the books in that direction after everyone was bugging him about how long it takes to write an installment.
I still think there's a chance for it to end with the white walkers turning Kings Landing to ice. A metaphor for us not heeding the warnings about changing global temperatures ("winter is coming"/"every year has been the hottest year on record") until it was too late
I don't think they get that far. I'm thinking this season resolves a lot of the political plots and next season is the war. There's just so much left, no way they can cover the White Walkers advancing that far.
'Game of Thrones' Exclusive: HBO Clarifies Prequels, Final Seasons Plan May not get final season until 2019.
been doing a re-watch lately and I don't think there's anyone I miss on this show more than Charles Dance, dude stole every scene he was in. -the Harrenhal stuff with Aria -that scene with Olenna Tyrell over who Loras would marry -Counseling Tommen on being king right after Joffrey's wedding so damn good
Girlfriend is binging the series so I've gone back and watched a handful of episodes lately. Still feel the same. The Wildlings/White Walkers portion of "Hardhome" is still my favorite part of any show ever. The way it ends with no music or dialogue and the Night King raising his arms up is just perfect.
