Call my tone negative all you want. There's a difference between constructive criticism and just down right complaining about nonsense. I have said a lot more than just my comments about this subject at hand, most if not all of what I have posted before this disagreement was valid and real conversation about the show. It got annoying reading post after post after post about what is literally the dumbest subject I've ever seen brought up about this show. Done even disputing it.
I understand you are frustrated with the discussion going on in here, but please understand that people can have different opinions if they wish. You can't really complain about what people are discussing because you only like to read positive things. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, including you, but arguing about it and telling people to stop discussing something you don't like is also not adding much to the forums.
Alright after all that blaming and guffawing from all parties involved (including me). Let's get this show back on the road. Man, my heart sank when Theon/Sansa were initially caught by the Bolton men, I was like not another season of Ramsay torturing these bastards, excellent timing to bring Brienne in for the save.
Can I be the one to point out that no one is complaining about the dogs and instead we just have people coming out of the woodwork to complain about the people who aren't really complaining about the dogs? Also, yeah, I don't abide by that whole "accept the changes" bullshit. This is literally Martin's life's work in its intended form. Sansa swearing in Brienne is probably a top 10 moment in the show for me. That whole scene was brilliant and exactly what I hoped for from three of my five favorite living characters coming together.
I don't mind the changes when they are competently done, tightening the pacing of Brienne's story was wonderful, don't really miss too much of the Greyjoy stuff either (But who knows maybe they'll address that this season). Expectations aside, Dorne just isn't and hasn't been well done the past two seasons.
I don't necessarily view those as changes to the actual story or characters though. As an author you must understand that not everything you write can fit into television in a concise manner. You should not have to accept that another writer does or doesn't like a character and therefore chooses to change things to suit what they like.
Well... yeah, you kind of do when you sell away the rights to be adapted by other people to another medium. There are three different versions of Solaris, the book, the Tarkovsky film, and the Soderbergh film. They're all different in a lot of ways because even if they tell a similar story, they have different authors choosing to go different routes and do different things and make different statements. Martin has the books to tell the story he wants to tell in his intended form. There are a million other examples of books being adapted into movies or television and being very different from each other. Friday Night Lights is a book, a movie, and a TV show, all of them different in a ton of ways. The Harry Potter movies make a bunch of changes to the books. Same with the Natural and its book, Up in the Air and its book, Cormac McCarthy's the Road and the film version, the Jaws book and the Jaws movie, etc.
If you stopped fucking whining about people talking about the dogs the conversation would have ended ages ago. Instead you threw a hissy fit about it and can't let it go. Christ.
Agreed with all of this. I found myself struggling to get through Brienne's chapters in AFFC, but I really look forward to her appearances in the show, even more now that she is with Sansa and Theon. As far as Dorne goes, I loved Oberyn. I remember watching season four and not getting to ASOS until later that summer and feeling slightly underwhelmed by Oberyn in the books just because of all the extra stuff they gave him in the show. He's still one of my top ten favorites in both mediums. However, the show has really let me down with the rest of Dorne. I've enjoyed Arianne and was disappointed to see her be cut from the show, but now Doran (another top ten) just got killed off like that I literally said out loud while my friends and I were watching the premiere "What the fuck" with an annoyed tone. I'm really disappointed with the direction they're taking Dorne as I have very little interest watching one-dimensional characters wage war against the Lannisters.
Can't believe I just wasted 10 min. reading through the last 3-4 pages of this thread...Game of Thrones is Great, it could plot twist to just about anything and I would still adore every min. Looking forward to the Channel 33 pod to get their take on this first episode!
Watch After the Thrones!! I really want people to watch it so it can be successful and they can keep doing it lol.
I honestly thought for a second that Ramsay was going to have sex with her body. Wouldn't have been out of character for him.
Got the podcast notification, tuned right in and with their HBO plug went straight to the break room to check it out...Simmons, After the Thrones...gonna be a good season!
I feel like one of the biggest issues with the Dorne plot is the fact that we haven't seen anything outside of the Water Gardens. We have had nothing really to indicate how the rest of Dorne feels about Oberyn's death, Doran as a ruler, or the Sand Snakes as a whole. Everything about the Dorne plot just feels small, and I think the scope and scale of what we've seen of Dorne itself up to this point is a big factor in that
The problem with Dorne is that nobody gives a fuck. After 5 years, we want a show about the characters we know. We haven't invested this much time into a story so it can be ignored for a new storyline.
What about when they go back to the Iron Islands? It's been a while since we've been there and not too much came out from that area.
I nominate that the stupidest thing I've read this week. It's only Tuesday so things might change, but good luck.
Oberyn was one of the most beloved characters on this entire show. A lot of people were very much interested in going to Dorne at the end of season four.
