I wouldn’t be surprised if they got an offer, but I feel like a lot of the hardcore bands would have a problem with them playing. Easier for them to just play their own shows and not drag other bands into it.
I don’t think a festival based off of community, accountability, good vibes would bring Brand New in knowing full well there would be large amount of backlash with ticket holders.
Aside from all that even, they seem a step or two removed on who I would expect to headline the festival.
The weird thing about all the announcements so far is that (minus Zao) none of them appeal or relate to who I consider to be the core community of this fest - the Christian / former Christian / adjacent emo / hardcore scene. Maybe I’ve misinterpreted the appeal of Furnace Fest. But I would have thought sprinkling two or three names from that scene (who will inevitably be announced down the line) would have got people so much more excited.
I feel like while that may have been the audience back in the day, ever since the fest returned it's been more well rounded and welcoming to other aspects of the alt scene. Spiritbox played a few years ago and are likely to play this year and they definitely don't fit into any of the scenes that you listed.
That's definitely a market of the festival, but based on the sets I saw last year, I think most of those bands have already came and played the popular album, or they came back and the novelty of the reunion faded if it was their second or third time at the festival. They mentioned taking a more "new blood" approach this time around.
I find these comments interesting - I’ve followed along for the last three since it came back and felt that it still had this core to it. I know most have not been connected to the scene I suggested and bands like Spiritbox have played, but looking at the line ups I still maintain the last three have had significant links with that segment of the scene. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing - just more a remark / reflection on the people saying the first two sets of announcements have done nothing / little for them. This answers to my point more and first I’ve heard about the new blood approach. Makes sense - you can’t rely on nostalgia forever. It’ll be interesting to see the rest of the line up.
"one part then, two parts now" is officially how they worded it. It's on the post where they first announced presale.
Judging by that Emery tour routing, it feels like The Question “album play” (you know why it’s in quotes after last year) is probably going to happen.
Maybe, I didn't get to make it that year. I had just moved to Birmingham and everything was still in flux.
For a nonheadliner in the middle of the day, it was also easily one of the top 5 largest crowds of that weekend; my buddy and I got separated when he went to the bathroom and he couldn't find me for half the set. It seemed like a huge underbilling at that moment.
Aftershock being that weekend would make any tours unlikely, but speed is playing on Thursday of aftershock and their side band has already been announced for furnace fest.
I was just looking at that Aftershock line-up being quite impressed with that Thursday/Friday curation. Probably rules out 75% of the bands on it, though.
yea it would def be bands not on tour, that it was worth it for them to fly to Birmingham which yea means very few
Like I still wouldn’t completely rule out Knocked Loose, they could fly to Birmingham. More signs pointing to Spiritbox being a headliner.
And after that discussion you go in the ff fb group and someone posts all these bands are out, Allena says some bands will be traveling by air. So there are ff bands on the aftershock lineup
they did confirm that the full line up drops after the next ten bands are announced. but they didn’t say if that’s with the final 5 next week or the week after that.
