My deal included the flights from and back To Chicago. Getting there Thursday night and going back Monday morning, came out to 490$
I live four hours away, so that definitely helps keep my costs down. Gonna drive down Friday morning and then home Sunday night.
I'm already at $1,200 for 2 tickets & a hotel room, & still need a flight But it's my only fest this year, it'll be worth it
I looked up transportation options and it looks like my 2 best options are either Uber from the Ramada by the airport or renting a car. Can anyone chime in on the Uber situation in Birmingham? I know it's 2021 but not all cities have Uber/Lyft these days...
My buddy and I are also planning to Uber from the Ramada, so worst comes to worst, we can share a normal taxi, haha.
I found out that I have a major discount on Enterprise from work so it will actually make more sense to me now to get a car.
Birmingham does have Uber and Lyft. I haven't used it since pre-pandemic but they're both fairly active in Birmingham.
To try and cut down on merch, I'm going to be trying to collect setlists from the shows. I also have a subcollection within my vinyl collection of autographed records; thinking of bringing the record sleeves in my backpack to try and get them signed since so many bands I love will be there. Seems like a lot, but I'm also thinking "when will I have the chance to get this many records I have signed?" Any cool stuff yall are excited about outside of just seeing the bands?
I've taken records to shows to get signed before, you're not alone. My 500+ records take up significantly less room than the band merch I've bought the last 15 years, I just can't buy shirts anymore haha. I'm not sure what the beer situation is here, but I'm always down for trying local beers if that's an option. I'm really wanting to eat some good food too
the hard part is choosing which records by what band to bring. Obviously with bands like converge, I have almost all of their stuff, but I can’t bring them ALL. I got stoked yesterday when I realized I could bring my self titled saosin record because cove sings for scary kids
The idea of carrying record sleeves around in a backpack all day in the ridiculous Southern heat made my back break out in sweat just now. Kinda sad that buying vinyl in said heat will probably be a non-starter, too. Quite a few bands will probably have a lot that I'm interested in.
yeah that’s another issue I’m worried about. Tons of vinyl I want that will be warped by the time it gets home
Birmingham has a lot of great local breweries within a short distance from the venue. We also have a great food scene here as well!
I do! It's my hometown! Well, Back Forty brewing is within walking distance of the venue and has pretty great food as well. Trimtab, Ghost Train, and Cahaba brewing are a short ride away as well. As far as food goes, it depends on how nice you want it to be. But I recommend The Essential (fairly nice-ish), La Fresca (nice italian food place), Bamboo on 2nd (sushi and ramen), Shu shop (sushi and ramen), Melt (good sandwich place), and Saw's Soul BBQ (amazing BBQ) and they're all downtown.
I'm close to pulling the trigger on this. I've never done a multi day event before. I live 50 mins away so I may just drive back and forth each day even though that sounds sucky. Don't feel like spending the extra cash on a hotel.
I’m dying for Set times/Stage info to be released. Anybody bored enough to take a stab at a mock schedule lol. Expecting tons of overlap unfortunately due to the amount of solid acts each day.
Thankfully, there are only 3 stages, so even if there is some overlap, it's totally feasible to still catch half of each set that's overlapped. Below is the Sloss Fest schedule for 2018 - after doing some digging, they had weather delays that significantly altered the event. But it's the South in September, there's a good chance it'll storm at some point over the weekend
Nice 3 stages is probably the right amount. There is close to 30 bands each day so I hope they start a little earlier to give them proper set times. Either way it’s going to be a damn treat to see some of these guys.. especially The Bled and From Autumn to Ashes for me personally.
