Def try to check out Al’s Deli & Grill near UAB if you like Mediterranean. Their Gyro’s & bakers are great. Another place to check out would be Yo Mamas if you want breakfast, but they’re only open on weekdays from 10:30 to 2:30.
Emery have been talking about putting something on, nothing definite yet but Matt & Toby have mentioned it on the podcast.
There are a ton of black owned businesses in Birmingham we should try to support during our time there BBBDAL.COM
They mention after party events, so if not on Thursday there should be some cool stuff during the fest itself. I had planned on going to this by myself but over the last couple months 2 buddies have joined up with me.
Torn on going to this or Riot Fest. Riot Fest undoubtedly has the bigger headliners but I feel like the Furnace Fest lineup is a lot deeper. Very few bands I'd skip on any given day. Any other selling points I'm missing? I assume crowd size would be smaller at Furnace Fest too?
Here's a map of Sloss Fest at the same venue from 2018. Furnace Fest said they'll have 3 stages, I think it's safe to assume it will look at least somewhat similar to this. The Monster "Shed" is covered, the other 2 are outside. If you go to their Twitter, just scrolling & looking at pictures gives a pretty good idea of what things could look like. I'd assume they'll be a lot less crowded though, because they had several much more popular artists playing (Arcade Fire, 21 Savage, Chris Stapleton, AJR, etc)
WIth only 3 stages at Furnace vs 5 at Riot, there's gonna be a lot less overlap vs Riot, imo. At Riot there were times that 3 of my must see bands were on at the same time. There's so many artists on Furnace Fest that haven't played a show in a REALLY long time, or play very infrequently, & that was my big selling point
Ya that's the appeal for me as well. A lot of these bands I've never seen whereas I've seen most of the "depth" bands playing riot fest
Who is singing for FSF these days? I noticed that Dashboard Confessional have another show the day of the performance...
Yeah that middle tier of bands at Riot are all great... but I'm not gonna pay $1,000 for a vacation to see Bayside/Mayday Parade/Four Year Strong/Simple Plan/New Found Glory for the 20th time each.
This is the official preshow now. Too bad it's 3 hours away from Birmingham in the opposite direction of me.
In their Insta post they said something about this being "the first official pre-party". Maybe I'm being optimistic and focusing on first official too much, but fingers crossed for more, & in Birmingham
I'm still surprised at how little action this thread is getting, I figured everyone would be completely blown away by this lineup. I know I am every time I look at it still! Where is everyone staying while they're here? We're flying from NYC, & we've considered AirBNB but there aren't any super convenient to the site & they're more expensive than hotels lately. I think we'll probably book the Fairfield Inn through the Furnace Fest site. There seems to be a bus (25) that goes almost straight from the hotel to the fest site, and I'm sure Uber/Lyft will always be an option too.
The reviews on that Ramada were really bad so I changed from that to a Super 8 like 3 or 4 miles from the venue.
Scratch that, the room blocks at all 3 hotels are gone. We just got a room at the Home2 Suites Downtown, a couple blocks from the hotels where they had blocks. And right around the same price
