I was nervous after Breakfast All Day’s kind of okay review. Ended up really loving it. Really informs Furiosa’s character and her grief. Those two sequences with her and “We ordered Solid Snake on Temu” were breathtaking. Chris Hemsworth was a perfect dick who just got meaner as the movie went on.

My big problems have been stated here and elsewhere. There is some “Thor: Love and Thunder”-level of bad CGI here. And what an stupid mistake to show scenes from “Fury Road” during the credits because that movie (and no big knock on this) just looks so much better and sharper.

Still, really liked those. Both ATJ and whoever played young Furiosa were great.

Probably gonna see this again in Dolby because I was on an aisle seat and the fucking piercing blue IMAX aisle lights shine into your eyes the entire time and I always hate it.

This was really good. Hemsworth and ATJ were both fantastic. Definitely agree about the visual quality not being as good as Fury Road. Like someone else mentioned though some of the shots that were in this were much more complicated and would be near impossible practical.

That first chase sequence with the war rig and the parachute/propeller blade weirdos was lit. Also was a big fan of the tracking shot over Hemsworth’s truck when he was chasing them down at one point.

Also very surprised how many Fury Road players were in this. Not sure if it was a known thing but was very surprised when I saw the organic mechanic then eventually the rest of the crew.

Sorry to say - time to pull a Furiosa and get a robot leg and get back out there.

But seriously, hope it heals well and quick.

    stole my joke.

Furiosa would be very disappointed in him.

loved the heck out of this.

some minor quibbles similar to what’s been brought up already. could have used some more time with Praetorian Jack, didn’t feel like we really got to know him well enough before he fully linked up with Furiosa.

a few CG parts jumped out at first, lots of the cars/bikes kind of had a stop motion feel to them as they bounced along, but i think that kinda fits George’s vibe?

was the Bullet Farmer a deepfake? they cut away from his face quite a bit and his face seemed extra mushy. i was also not expecting as much Immortan Joe as we got, but it makes sense story-wise-not really spoilers just characters i was not expecting to return.

i’m not seeing enough praise for the girl who played younger Furiosa, she rocked.

Love that our first introduction to Damentis is him causally having a history lesson about cars. Also unless I missed something, it’s interesting were introduced to a new son of Joe and I think we were all assuming he would die lol. Good fake out

Apparently the other son we are introduced to (Scrotus) is the villain in the 2015 Mad Max game, so the video game is considered canon

What!? Had no idea he’s in that and that’s really cool they respected the game that much to do so. They could’ve just as easily dismissed it

he and his followers are the main antagonists in the Mad Max game, so it was cool to see him show up in the movie.

    edit: too slow

This is one of those things where I want to know as little about the lore or whatever as possible. It’s about the feel of the world, and the set pieces & aesthetic & actors & vibe.

Anyways, this ruled. The plot was whatever, just an excuse to have events happen and create a feeling. I do not care about the specifics of whatever politics or conflicts or whatever, but it worked as a scaffolding for Furiosa’s journey. At one point I found myself missing the less-is-more of Fury Road (a better movie), but also, the ending of this between Taylor-Joy & Hemsworth ruled. And, the cumulative (sorry, using the word again) feeling of seeing so many events was important for that working.

Love dude having a tree growing out of him at the end. Perfect ending to pull it all together and make me go “fuck yeah that ruled.”

I need to spend time thinking about both but at the moment I’m not convinced Fury Road is the better film

Pretty good, but definitely have some issues with it. It honestly just made me appreciate Fury Road and how special that film is even more. Ending with Chris and Anna was definitely a highlight.

The whole movie I was thinking “am I crazy? I feel like the CG in fury road was way less obvious than this”. And then the credits came on and confirmed it for me lol.

Still enjoyed this a lot, but have a lot of the same problems others have pointed out. Felt like it took a long time to get going, but once it did it was GOING. That first sequence where they’re driving the war rig was breathtaking.

I’m actually glad I didn’t rewatch Fury Road before this, but I definitely look forward to doing a back-to-back now.

Gimme light, gimme love, gimme fire

This whipped ass. A full-on origin story in the best way possible. That War Rig sequence was so masterful and I never wanted it to end.

I could hang with all the Wasteland weirdos for many more movies.

  23. Just came back from my viewing and now I think I'm in love with Anya Taylor Joy

    that's all

  24. No but that was nuts, one of the best movie experiences I've had. Can already tell many shots or entire sequences are going to stay on my mind for a long time. Can't believe how George Miller still pulls this off as his age too
