Discuss the greatness of these two groups. I hope everyone is ok with them sharing a thread instead of me creating two separate ones.

Maggot Brain is a fantastic night driving song

I've been so into them this summer. Had only really heard Maggot Brain and the big hits before, but maaaaaaaaaaaaaaan it's unreal how fantastic of a catalogue both groups have.

Going to start getting into them tomorrow, been meaning to for a while.

Would Free Your Mind, Maggot Brain and Cosmic Slop be good places to start?

    For Funkadelic, yes definitely.

Had a first listen to Funkentelechy vs. the Placebo Syndrome yesterday and it's killer.

"Flash Light" is just one of the best songs by anyone.

I always focus on Funkadelic more because I like the mix of funk and psychedelic rock a little more. Need to give Parliament another listen asap.

Anything pre-Maggot brain is pretty unrepresentative, tbh. Their prime stuff is much more loose and wild.

Other than hearing a few casual tracks, right now is my first time listening to either band in earnest. Listening to One Nation Under A Groove in full right now and it's reaaallly nice

It’s a cliche to say this about bands but very true in their case:

Absolutely nobody sounds quite like them

Woww, Standing On The Verge of Getting It On is my favorite album so far. I've listened through their 1974-80ish matieral, and I know that the earlier stuff is supposedly even better. Strapping in.
