Not sure on FFAF (but I assume there'll at least be a single this year, probably in time for 2000 Trees if so), but I know there's a Holding Absence album coming this year that's been all but confirmed. Skip to 4:33 on this video.
Yeah, totally. I think a lot of young bands in the 00s had zero vocal coaching and just wrecked their voices on tour without really understanding what they were doing long term. With bands like Funeral where the vocalist both sings and screams, it almost always seems to go one of two ways: either the singing voice gets stronger while the screams get weaker, or the screams stay powerful and the clean vocals start to suffer. It’s a brutal balance, especially if no one’s teaching you how to protect your voice.
It does often seem to be much harder on those who both sing and scream. I remember Maynard James Keenan saying that doing one or the other, singing or screaming, every night is fine, but doing both every night is a nightmare.
Everyone shoulda been taking notes on whatever Shane from Silverstein did, because that dude's voice and range got a lot better over the years and has held up incredibly well. but yeah, not everyone is going to focus on that kind of thing at an early age.
Shane is one vocalist from the scene that I can only imagine has had a coach as his voice is still as strong as ever.
does anyone own this DVD or know if it will play on US players or is it region restricted? Funeral For A Friend – Spilling Blood In 8mm – DVD (DVD-Video, PAL), 2004 [r3358510] | Discogs
If it’s a PAL DVD it won’t play on normal US DVD players, I don’t believe. You’d need special kit / an adapter.
I saw some of the videos on YouTube and was impressed of the quality! I never knew it existed so I didn’t think it was released here in America
It's one of my favourite live band DVDs haha. Used to watch it all the time in my teens. "this is a song about haircuts"
