I want to believe, but I sadly don't. The best hope I have is that it happens as a surprise at Shadow of the City but I just can't see a full blown reunion anytime soon.
I don't know how long The Format plans to tour, if this short run is a tease for something bigger or that's that. But I imagine Nate would just want to focus on one thing at time. Plus, judging from Jack's responses to questions about fun in the past, I don't think he's in an hurry to get back together and is just focusing on Bleachers.
I feel like fun. just stopped. Is there bad blood between the members or something? I don’t think we ever got an explanation, nor are we entitled, I’m just curious.
It's all speculative, but Jack said he didn't want to be an old man playing "We Are Young" and Nate said he didn't handle the idea of going solo with the band the best. They all say there's no bad blood, but it doesn't seem like they're eager to reunite.
What I truly think happened is you had a band who was used to having a cult following - all from beloved bands but no one playing anything bigger than 1,000 cap rooms. They found massive success out of nowhere, and then all of a sudden they have to follow that up.. I mean how do you even follow up an album like that. Because at that point, there was no way they were gonna replicate the success of Some Nights, it was lightening in a bottle.
They also mentioned not living together anymore and the different directions they were all going. I don’t know if bad blood is really the accurate term for it, more like growing apart. Either way I don’t think Jack wants the distraction from Bleachers and what he is doing as a producer. Maybe a celebration down the road but doubt it’ll be a full blown reunion.
I could see fun. recording a secret EP or album at some point and doing a quick tour like Jack just did with Red Hearse
He worked so hard to shed the “guitarist from fun” label, I think that’s the only thing stopping it at this point.
Agreed. Dunno if this is a hot take or not but Bleachers yo me is a one hit wonder currently. Jack’s obviously a big name producer but he’s only really had one “hit” under the Bleachers moniker.
Well yeah, "Jack Antonoff, superstar producer" is now what he is most known for, but I don't think that means he never wants to do fun. again
I could be wrong but I could have totally sworn that happened at that Father John Misty wildlife benefit show. I can’t find anything about it though so now I’m wondering why I thought that
Someone else said it a few day ago but Nate was in a relationship with Jack's sister, and Fun. went on hiatus shortly after they broke up.
Anyway, today is as good of a day as any to re-visit the best song on Nate's solo song when it was still a fun. song. The last song they made together that we know of, still a great song
Wasn't Nate using this song on his solo album a point of contention with the band as well? Great song though.
Nothing official has been said about that as far as I know, but people have of course speculated. Andrew and Jack are credited on the track still and fun. didn't exist anymore, so I don't know what kind of opposition they would really have anyway
