From a new Jack interview I respect this, and like seeing her has nostalgia for the Style Train era while mentioning The Format and Anathallo. Also cool to see him recognize that nothing is a "no" but rather a "not right now"
It's crazy that it's been almost 10 years since the last Nate album. I hope he makes something else again eventually, I'd love to hear his perspective on life these days.
I need that sweet sweet Nate voice in my ears But I also recognize he likely doesn't want to, and I guess I can wait.....
I would be shocked if we ever got a new Nate album, but stranger things have happened. I’m unsure I’ve ever seen anyone so thoroughly finished making music.
Andrew's new band/project released an album today. described as "retro futurist fuzza bossa weirdo pop." It's cool
Andrew lives in my neck of the woods these days and I got to interview him about his annual holiday show for my day job, in case anyone was wondering what he's up to! How Andrew Dost's Christmas At The Old Art Building Became Leelanau's Hottest Holiday Ticket
[Verse 1] We had a band, we had a life, we had dreams In a van we wrote our own Bible supreme Then you got a house, a lawn, a wife, and a kid And those dreams turned to memories and that's where it ends But I still feel our pact running through my head Yeah, I still feel our pact every time I'm on the edge [Chorus] We should talk We should talk We should [Verse 2] We shared a brain in 2012 'Fore everybody had a hot take from hell You changed it all and then burned it in a flash And you hеld my hand until I took it back Yes, you held my hand until I took it back And then thе world turned on you, I don't forgive them for that [Chorus] We should talk We should talk We should We should talk [Verse 3] Ball gown promenading, making records and beats Like J.D. called it, "twin high-maintenance machines" Blood brothers ready to take it all by storm 'Til I lost you to the downtown post-woke germs But I really miss hanging on each other's words Yeah, I really miss hanging on each other's words Yes, I really miss hanging on each other's words Yeah, I really miss hanging on each other's words [Chorus] We should talk We should talk We should [Outro] (Talk like we used to) (Talk like we, talk like we used to) (Be who we ended up being) (But talk like we, talk like we used to)
I also thought it was partly about Lena but it's definitely talking about Nate some at least really good song tho
I was thinking maybe Matty in the latter part, or maybe Steel Train someone or other in the front, hard to say... but definitely some Nate vibes. and yes, I would love Nate and Jack to talk. My (unreal) dream would be that fun. comes back as an outlet for Nate's more bombastic/thearical/pop songs that (hopefully, maybe??) he writes, and maybe they release an EP or some singles and play some festivals, while The Format remains his main output. Unrealistic, but could be cool as hell
I feel like a fun album wouldn't be as big of a hit now and nate could do it without feeling the fame pain but who knows. I'd love to see it too
I don’t even need a new album as long as the format is active. But I’d love for them to reunite for a summer and hit the fest circuit or something
Also I haven't heard that song yet, but it definitely reads to me like each verse is about a different person. Likely Jack, Lena, and based on almost nothing I fear maybe Lorde or one of his other collaborators.
alternate idea, we pool money to create a Chorus festival, invite The Format, Bleachers and Andrew's band seprately then have them play on the same day and put their greenrooms right next to each other....
was not expecting the mountain goats quote in those lyrics. come up with your own metaphor dude also kinda funny that he potentially has unresolved issues with so many people
