What are people's thoughts on It Gets Better? Probably my least favorite Fun. song if I had to pick one.
The one miss on this record for me. I don’t think it’s a good song to start with, and the way it’s produced just sounds so jarring and unpleasant to me.
I like the energy of the song and its placement on the album, it fits well. I do wish they would've shortened it by 30 seconds to a minute and gone full dance-punk rager on it though.
I like the energy of the song more than anything else. The lyrical content is a swing and a miss, which is a bummer on an album full of quirky, yet relatable life summations.
Very much seconding this opinion. "Sight of the Sun" from the Girls soundtrack (but I think came from the Some Nights sessions) also ranks above anything on the album itself for me. No one seems to talk about it, but "One Foot" is my favorite from the original tracklist
I remember this album was on like a early preview on Spotify or something like the week before it released officially. I went over to my friends house when he was having a party and had just found out about it so I threw it on. I called it right there that the album was going to be huge. Didn't expect to be that right though. To be honest, I was more of a fan of Aim and Ignite, and prev. Steel Train, The Format, and Anathallo than I was of Some Nights, but I was super happy for their success. I had seen Steel Train live (with Forgive Durden and Dear and the Headlights!) and then caught fun. previously with Manchester Orchestra. Damn. Time flies.
I probably didn't give Fun enough listens to back in the day. I did enjoy all their previous bands (especially The Format). I do remember seeing the Anathallo, Steel Train and The Format on the Dog Problems tour in 2007. Definitely a foreshadowing of things to come!
I completely forgot about Anathallo. Never was able to get into them, maybe I should give their stuff a spin tonight... I was lucky(??) to see Steel Train at a cafe in Temecula years ago during some Drive Thru tour that was just... so sad for the turnout. But not as bad as Forgive Durden at Chain Reaction where it was legit me, my gf, and some of the bands family at the show. Felt so, so bad for them. But they played their hearts out.
This growing old is getting old I often find myself here thinking About the birds, the boats, and past loves That flew away or started sinking And it's crazy here without you I used to think this all was ours We stay up late debate On how we find our way You say, "It's all up in the stars"
