Totally, and the offshoot of that are people who give it a 0/10 because they lost their runes in a boss battle lmao.

 

I’ve come across a few things where I was like wow if I knew about that earlier it would’ve saved me some headaches, but that’s just part of the experience and opens me up to playing through again when I’m done. And shit like that happens in all RPG’s I’ve played a ton of games where I found out a mechanic or a certain quest or something would’ve made something else much easier way later when it didn’t matter. That kind of thing happens with or without a quest log, that’s just part of gaming in general if you ask me

 

Lol when I start boss attempts I know whatever runes I’m going in with are gone because it’s tedious to have to go pick up your runes with every attempt. So whatever I have I just let it go and that allows me to leave the boss and come back if I’m struggling because I’ve got no runes on the line. And I’ve got a couple sacrificial twigs on me if I decide after one attempt I’m gonna come back later, then I run in with the twig equipped, grab my runes and die so they’re no longer trapped in the boss room

'Caring about what the newcomer thinks' is saying that Fromsoftware's main goal to make the most money possible and it's clear that has never been their goal. The integrity they maintain no matter how many people cry for easy mode gets a ton of respect from me. They have such unique core values to their game developing. I hope it never changes.I don't think it ever will.

 

Ok i'm done, back to Vampire Survivors.

 

its a problem, but I don't think its a problem to simply be punted but instead one that developers should try and find the right balance to solve. Yes, it is definitely tricky to give the user the right amount of information. Too much and it becomes a chore. Too little and they can forget or they have to go look stuff up

But ultimately, if a the game tells you "Go do this" (like it does you get your first great rune, or when you get given a quest) that information should be repeated somewhere easily accessible rather than hidden away in your inventory alongside a bunch of other random items you've picked up

I guess I just don’t think it’s a problem that needs to be solved because it never will be, there will always be things you miss on a first and sometimes second or third play through of a game, and it very rarely if ever makes my experience worse when it happens, but that’s just me maybe other people find that kind of thing frustrating. For me, it’s just like “oh neat, well I did the thing without it so who cares”

 

That said I am about to go figure out how to activate the runes lol I do remember it mentioning something about that after godrick and I forgot about it. But I’ve been having the time of my life so I doubt it’s made my experience any worse by not figuring that out

 

excluding people from being able to play your games is kinda the opposite of integrity

If Maddy Thorson can make a game whose central premise is overcoming a challenge, and thus the difficulty of the game is itself woven into the story; but can still add an assist mode to that game because she realizes that not everyone faces challenges in the same way and that her vision of the game should be shouldn't come at the expense of people not being able to play her game because its too hard for them then so can fromsoftware

 

At the risk of repeating the same discussion from the last few pages with someone else...

It's okay to not care about someone's suggestion or concerns but I feel like being dismissive is a very offputting approach to conversing that is exactly what rubs me the wrong way about like... 90% of the gaming community. And it's not just limited to gaming either, but that's a discussion for another time.

I know that's not really your intention, or at least I hope it isn't, but I don't think there's anything wrong with having a dialogue like this and being open to people's ideas or interpretation.

There's ways to constructively discuss these things.

It’s called sites of grace every twenty steps and stakes of maraka at every boss room

 

after I finished my play through I went on fextralife to look at their interactive map and I was shocked at how many sites of Grace I missed. There’s so fucking many

 

I retrace my steps a lot especially when I feel brickwalled so I find myself going back to lower level zones often and it always shocks me how many I’ll come across when I thought I did a thorough job
