just lost 25k runes to Fallingstar Beast because I forgot to check how many I had on me. Taking back everything I said, game sucks shit now
weren't you just yesterday complaining about how people were exaggerating how this game was unlike any other open world game when it came to recycling content??
yeah my entire argument had to do with the actual design of the world, it had nothing to do with the UI. I’m not offended by the meme because I can see the truth in it even if it is over the top
i dipped out of there so fast. one of the few bosses I did not beat on my first play through. that entire area is packed with field bosses
Lmao this game has plenty of recycled content and if it’s not recycling itself it’s literally recycling other from games. still the best game I’ve played since BOTW but also some people really love this game more than it’s healthy.
I still haven’t taken down the first fallingstar beast but yeah just roaming around the plateau and the volcano there’s a ton of shit to find. Wormface sent massive chills down my spine after dealing with the surrounding adds in his area but I’m gonna go back for that fucker eventually
I think BOTW showed you can do both. You don't need to attach every boss to a "go kill this thing" quest. But I also don't think it hurts to, when you have a conversation with a NPC, make a log of that conversation so you can remember everything other people have asked your character to do or other things you're prompted for? What is a better gameplay experience -- a person gets their first great rune and gets a couple of quests logged about activating it or a person gets their first great rune, sees a few popups around activating it but dismisses them and then the whole "yeah I need to activate that thing" gets pushed aside as you explore the new area, until suddenly you've completely forgotten about it?
That’s what I was saying. Most reviews I’ve seen call the open world design completely unprecedented and not copy pasted at all which is just false. But again the game is fantastic and it’s not even a shortcoming that assets are reused for certain areas and bosses are repeated with the same move sets just slight variances in health or setting or one tiny mechanic. It doesn’t bother me but it is a thing
(It tells you you need to activate it in the item description. You know, the first place you’d check lol)
What’s so bad about forgetting about something if other things are engaging you and holding your attention? I haven’t done anything to activate any great runes or anything and have no idea what rune arcs do or why I’m hoarding them but I saw someone mention it becomes a big thing later in the game so I’m just waiting til that time comes, doesn’t feel like I’m missing out on anything and I’m having a fantastic gameplay experience
but I also think there is truth to the statement that this game does a better job at handling recycled content. like any good game, this game has done a good job at improving on what works in other past games. both in terms of how it manages the hud, and in terms of how it manages recycled content. I don't think exaggerating the improvements helps though. Comes across as elitist and misinformed.
Holyyyyy shit as someone who has played all the from games I can not articulate how much I don't give a fuck if there is a quest log. With these games it's accept and appreciate how they are or go play the 75 other games who do what you are looking for.
I agree for sure that the recycled content still feels meaningful here which is a change of pace from most games, for sure. I also would normally agree that a meme like that would be over the top and elitist, until I saw the battlefield dev and the horizon dev actually legitimately complaining about elden rings interface
They don't need the casual newcomer and their complaints, they are doing just fine with their diehard fanbase
that's fair. But I also kinda feel that "oh I forgot to do this one simple thing ages ago that would've made the rest of my experience less frustrating" is definitely a feeling I've had with games before and quest logs can be a good way to ensure people don't forget stuff.
tbh they’re also bringing in plenty of newcomers like myself who understand the vision and respect how their games are designed.
