i did say that as i was in a catacomb with a bunch of illusory walls but it still wasnt hard to figure out having been in 10 other catacombs. like i said, not a complaint, but really wondering what all these people who think this is unlike any other open world game to ever exist are smoking
literally every single review ive seen on youtube. like 10+ different outlets and channels have all said the same exact thing about its open world design.
hrm guess I didn't read reviews that closely. i do think the recycledness is a lot better than other games. in something like Assassins Creed you have a handful of different event types (cave, tomb, camp, fort, legendary monster, etc...) and once you've seen it, while the can mix up the formula a bit as the game goes on I don't recall getting that many surprises. a lot of them play out the same way each time. here sure each of the catacombs has the same sort of "navigate through route 1, fighting gargoyles, pull the switch, then go back to the big door you passed, navigate a bit more fighitng more gargoyles, fight boss" pattern. But the way you do that feels a lot more different each time than exploring the tombs in assassins creed that all kinda felt the same.
i literally just played assassins creed valhalla a month ago and the variety in landmarks from zone to zone was just as varied as this game. every town was slightly different, every monastery or abbey was slightly different, etc. so i really dont fall for the argument that AC is uniquely copy-pasted in ways that this game isnt. that was a criticism in odyssey that they did plenty to correct in valhalla
just hit level 70 and came across the dual gargoyles down in that hidden city. thats about it for me tonight lol.
that’s good to know. I haven’t played Valhalla yet, just odyssey (which I really enjoyed). The forts and camps themselves were decently varied but it did start to get rather repetitive at the end, the caves and tombs even more so. And maybe Elden Ring will also start to feel repetitive but so far there seem to be way more different stuff to do. Like I think I’ve gone through four catacombs at this point? I guess I might feel the repetition a bit more once I do more of them
I’m not even complaining or criticizing elden ring for being repetitive though, I just think it’s being overstated just how unique the open world design is. It’s not a problem or shortcoming with the game at all.
I stopped doing catacombs I wanna see da real shit. At this point I’m perversely overpowered for almost all non-optional content. I’m level 69.
the last boss is easily the worst in the game imo. multiple attacks that I seemingly have no way of dodging that can kill me and ruin a run so fast. looks cool but it's so fucking annoying.
