Remember the other katana, the Nagakiba. The long range and boosting the bleed ability makes it nasty and gives me space.

Yeah, I love it until I have to go into the little dungeons and suddenly I'm fucked lol. So I think trying out the daggers in there would be great.

Also run a beefed up mace as a backup in case I'm going up against crystal bastards

 

Yall ever seen MissMikkaa on twitch? She beat Elden Ring on a DDR pad, she's doing level 1 runs up through NG+7, she is currently on NG+6, it's insane watching her. She just casually talks to chat while fighting bosses too.

 

I haven't seen her but I do wanna say that it's extremely understated how difficult it is to talk to a chat while playing a game like Elden Ring haha

 

DARK SOULS 3 LEVEL 1 UPDATE:

I resumed my run yesterday and decided to stream a bit of fighting Darkeater Midir. Midir has long been my kryptonite in DS3, ESPECIALLY on this level 1 run where I often dealt 10% or less of the HP bar of damage before dying. The wonderful @Shakriel hung out while I streamed and gave advice on ways I could roll to give myself better openings and that 10% slowly increased to 25-30% (usually 25).

Today before lunch I made a ring switch that ended up helping tremendously and managed to take out 75% of the HP bar. Finally after lunch...

 

Just defeated Halflight at level 1 and let me say...Halflight is tied with Bed of Chaos for worst FromSoft boss for me, maybe it's 2nd just due to the runback being okay but ugh. (Valiant Gargoyles are #3 for me right now but I still haven't done DS2.) What a god awful design. It'd probably be better if it were a PVP ONLY boss and there were also a path around it to Gael (for if there are no users available to fight) but good god, the stupid adds throwing shit around with a dagger that has as much poise break as a greatsword, plus the main guy carrying around his stunlock katana and adding on the perpetual Carian Retaliation equivalent (I forgot the name in DS3) AND they can heal each other? Just awful. I never want to fight Halflight again and I don't think I ever will.

ON TO GAEL AND THE END OF SL1.

Got REALLY close on Gael. I know the fight well enough, just gotta clean it up

 

FINAL UPDATE:

Gael is dead and I shouted for joy upon getting that final blow. He took me to a sliver of my health with 0 heals available and required SO much patience to get the final blow. Gael remains a masterfully crafted fight, honestly can't believe how good he holds up on level 1, even though I fully expected him to.

SL1 through Dark Souls 3 was the most fun out of all of the level 1 runs I've attempted thus far and I'm so happy I was able to accomplish this (and I firmly believe that if I can do it anyone can so everyone should try it). It was a blast learning to optimize all kinds of fights in different ways.

Shout out to the raw broadsword and the morningstar for being my best friends throughout the experience.

Dark Souls 3 SL1 bosses tier list:

 

Made some progress in elden ring last night just need to round out the upper half of liurnia before taking on the academy and all that but I’m level 38 I believe. Took down the grafted scion which was way harder than I remember. I’m trying to do strength faith but there are like zero faith based weapons in the front half of the game but I know there’s a great one outside where you give D the ghostwort or whatever it is in Caelid once I’m high enough to take down that boss

(For what its worth I have no "elitist" takes about engaging with the game, the game gives you things to use so have fun with it! Challenges are fun and power fantasies are also fun and a combination of the two is extra fun. I just really think that's the easiest which makes it really funny that the people playing that way are the ones putting other people down for how they play.)

Yeah. I’d agree with this take tbh. Like I go dex and have a different experience than what I see FightinCowboy experience in the walkthroughs lol since I can’t just hulk smash everything.

 

And I support people playing these games however they want.

 

The most dissonance I've experienced in any FromSoft game is fighting Malenia using dex and then next playthrough fighting her with strength/quality. VASTLY different experiences in difficulty

Over time I've definitely recognized it as a feature not a bug though. I love that 2 people can have such different experiences with each fight

 

I did a dex bleed build and felt like it was easy mode haha

 

Bleed is definitely pretty easy

Strength just has as many bleed build opportunities as dex thanks to ashes of war and different great weapons so it ends up being very similar PLUS having the poise breaks

 

I’d agree. While I just love playing samurai so I haven’t attempted another build, as a dex player I can kill Malenia fairly easily (relatively speaking since it took me only two tries in the last go round)

 

I tend to do dex with bleed in all from games but noticed it felt stronger in ER. Doesn’t stop me from doing it.

 

I try to mix it up every game/run just to see what's out there

Including in Sekiro. I'll switch up prosthetics and weapon arts (I forget what they're actually called) and ninjutsus every run just to experiment with play styles
