I did a bit of Sekiro a few months ago (see post somewhere way above). It's hard. I'm going to start over eventually after I finally get to finish Zelda. It's going to be one hell of a transition.
Sekiro is deceptively simple. What I thought the game did a (kind of) bad job of explaining is that sound is a huge cue for what to do in fights; if you are blocking/deflecting and you hear a high-pitched sword *ting*, start attacking. When attacking if you hear an enemy block with a high-pitched *ting* sound, get ready to start blocking. You are always trading offence and defense back and forth, back and forth. The better you time your deflects the quicker you get to that window to start attacking, but I went through a lot of the game before I picked up on this which made it very much harder than it needed to be. It is one of the best games ever made, and taking that time to hang around one early-game area and learn the combat basics, the more rewarding the overall experience will be. Hopefully this is clear/helpful, I have had several beers tonight
Got past chained ogre and beat Gyoubu today. Still feel like I’m not playing right/don’t feel confident but I’m at least progressing
The only advice you really need for Sekiro is to keep playing. Eventually, it will all click whether you are trying to learn it or not.
That's where I stopped, after several attempts but also needed to put the PS away. How powered up were you?
I had beaten Gyoubu and powered up after that and unliked a few abilities. Lady Butterfly was tough but it was one of the only battles so far where dodging a ton and not deflecting made it easier.
That's interesting because it was a deflect festival for me when I first fought Lady Butterfly and that's what I thought made it easy haha, a lot of aggression and deflection
