Player's Log: I'm currently in the Giant-Conquering Hero's Grave, where I'm stopping for the evening. It is the last thing I have to do in the Mountaintops other than anything having to do with the Fire Giant and the Forge. I'm not touching that until later.

This means I did indeed defeat Commander Niall, and even though I killed him on my first try, he was challenging. I now have the Haligtree Medallion, so after I finish the Hero's Grave, my next goal will absolutely be to open up the Consecrated Snowfield and start exploring that neck of the woods.

I also did some looking into the Legendary achievements and found I had actually missed a couple of items necessary for those achievements, so I went back to Leyndell and Caria Manor and got the ones I was missing. I also completely forgot about the cathedral in Caelid for Dragon Communion, so I went there and bought the last Legendary Sorcery I needed for that achievement. The rest still await me.

Yeah, so far going for a strength build, concentrated on vigor at first, now I'm tending to alternate strength and vigor with the occasional dex as well. Up to about level 25 I think? Still just feel like I'm mashing buttons and hoping for the best a lot of the time. I haven't got the hang of playing defensively at all.

I'm trying to explore as much as possible. I've got the maps for limgrave, WP, and Liurnia. I'm getting to the point where I'm generally fairly confident with regular field enemies, but tougher enemies in the caves are challenging me and most bosses I've come across are out of the question atm. Came across the Runebear in one of the WP caverns last night - he stomped me before I could land a single hit.

At the point where the rune requirement for levelling up is getting a bit steeper which means it takes a while to build them up from field enemies but then I'm losing them again on bigger enemies before I get a chance to cash in.

Like i say, I'm not ready to give up, I guess I just wish I had a bit more to show for my play time so far.

When you say "play defensively", what are you doing or trying to do in that area?

I've said many times here that I never got the hang of rolling through attacks and I rely pretty heavily on my shield and guard counters. A good shield is priceless to me.

That said, sometimes you just need to learn how to create distance from your opponents and develop a strategy.

by the way, I was very hyped for this game, and played for a few days at first and was ready to give up

then I started following some youtube video walkthroughs, and it helped a LOT on the order of how to do things

now I love ALL the Souls games lol I guess it just took some time

I'm casually replaying DS3 as of a few days ago and it's been a good time. Am almost to Abyss Watchers.

I’ve been playing DS2 and not really understanding the hate. I think it’s been great, to me it seems like a slightly less memorable DS1. Like the locations and bosses aren’t as great but everything else feels pretty similar and DS1 became one of my favorite games of all time

At a certain point it makes sense to go after much bigger enemies and bosses to meet your level up requirements than farming overworld mobs

I can honestly say that I have not had to farm once in this game.

Haven't played this game in around 7 days, had started with my NG+ and had got to the point where I'd defeated Godrick but I have honestly just run out of steam after sinking 150 hours total into it. I love my current build but the prospect of doing everything required to get to the places I want to go (Haligtree/Farum Azula) is very unappealing. Gonna put ER down for now and maybe try that kung-fu game Sifu!

Player's Log: Having completed the Giant-Conquering Hero's Grave and the Hidden Path to the Haligtree, I am now in the Consecrated Snowfield. Specifically the Consecrated Snowfield Catacombs, where I am having a time. I've run out of healing and so I'm using the dumb medallion to heal, because I'm almost to the boss lever and I don't want to die before then.

I also gave Gurranq his last Deathroot.

Player's Log: I did everything I can in the Consecrated Snowfield.

This includes the fucking Death Bird, who I hate with every fiber of my being, and may indeed be my new arch-nemesis. I killed him by using the cliffs to snipe him with a bow and arrow until I ran out of arrows, and then I finished it off on foot. This would sound like a cheeseball method if I didn't have to do this FOUR FUCKING TIMES before I finally managed to kill him. So goddamn annoying.

Anyway. My Uchigatana is fully upgraded, and either my bow or my shield is fully upgraded as well, can't remember which right now. I'm also past Level 150 in my stats, and I've started upgrading some of my neglected attributes, just because Vigor and Strength are already at 60 and I don't really know what else to dump points into.

I also did everything I can do in Mohgwyn's Palace. That's right, Mohg, Lord of Blood, is now the Lord of Dead. Funny enough, I killed him my second try, and would've been first if I hadn't been dumb. My point? How is the fucking Lord of Blood easier to kill than a goddamn BIIIIIIIRD!!!!

    Ahem.

I finished Varre's questline, as a result. I also finished Patches' questline.

I am now currently at the start of Miquella's Haligtree. I have a three day weekend, so I'm kind of hoping I can actually finish the game. I know after the Haligtree, I have to kill the Fire Giant, go to Crumbling Farum Azula, and then the final area. So I think I might be able to pull it off.

Honestly, as much as I love this game, I'm kind of looking forward to doing something smaller and quieter for my next play. I may even take a break and refocus on my mobile games, I've been kind of neglecting them.

The Snowfield is a rough area between the dragon and the undead bird. Nice job! You are closing in on the end. Good luck with the giant.

Thanks. The dragon actually wasn't too bad, except I was actually looking for the tower in that area, so when I saw the boss health meter show up, I was like "Wait, we're doing what now?!" Good times.

Did you fight the Runebear in Consecrated Snowfield at all? I took one look at how much heath it had and just straight up ran away haha

Is that the one disguised as a dude? If so, yeah, I got it. I guess I didn't have to since I only got a Larval Tear out of it, but I want to do everything I can in this game.

Yeah that's the one, it has like 17k heath which only one other Runebear in the game has - the one inside a cave in Dragonbarrow. I did that one after about 12 tries but could not be bothered going through that again :crylaugh:. Did you do the red wolf in Consecrated Snowfield too? That was also pointlessly hard
