Player's Log: I've done everything I can possibly do in the Volcano Manor except for fighting Rykard, because I still have some more contracts to complete for them and I want to finish those first. The only other location I can currently access that I can explore besides the Mountaintop is the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds in Leyndell, so I'm going to wade into there and see how I feel. If it feels good, I'll finish that before turning my attention back to the Mountaintop.
Fully completed the capital this morning! Took out Morgott and wow that was a very interesting turn of events and fight. Got every item except ONE that is on a balcony that I’m not sure how the hell to access it. Anyways I’m at the mountaintop of giants now. There were two omen killer bosses you fight in the dark which was very cool. Then I activated Morgotts great rune. Unsure I’m gonna switch it out I still really like Godricks. Radahns seems the moist pointless imo. so what is the lore/story reason for Margit=Morgott?
Activated what I’m assuming is the last grand lift and right before it was a black blade gargoyle boss fight that I got down to 20% health but ran out of flasks. Will go back
I actually just did this because I didn't know when I beat Leyndell if I should do it yet or not. It's funny you say that about Radahn though, because I actually swapped Godrick's out for his, feeling Radahn's rune provides a larger boost to specific stats than Godrick's does. That boss is tough. I had my Mimic and also summoned Millicent to help and still felt it was a tough fight.
Yeah so I get the reasoning of Radahn’s rune especially if you’re going for a specific build. Though I like the overall usefulness of boosting all stats that Godrick’s brings. Also did not know you could summon Millicent for that Gargoyle fight very nice
Player's Log: I've now done everything I can possibly do in the Shunning-Grounds with the exception of seeking out the Frenzied Flame Proscription. I did defeat Mohg's Omen form, so when the time is right I'll go back to that Site of Grace and seek things out. Side note: Dung Eater is a terrifying little shit. I've started his quest and given him 3 Seedbed Curses. Not thrilled about it though. The man's clearly a psychopath. Anyway, I have nothing else to do now except go back and start actively exploring Mountaintop Of The Giants. That I'll either start tonight or tomorrow depending on how the day goes.
Players Log: Dark Souls Remastered: I am making this game my B****! -Killed Seath the Scaleless and got his weapon/tail -Killed Ceaseless Discharge -Killed Demon Firesage -Killed the Centipede Demon -Currently in Lost Izalith and closing in on my first playthrough of the game. -Also obtained all Sorceries! Woot!
Player's Log: So I started exploring the Mountaintops. I made it to the Site of Grace where Millicent is located and decided to stop there after taking out some of the iron giants surrounding the area. The Mountaintops is honestly the coolest location I've seen so far in the game. Don't get me wrong, each area has its own charm. Leyndell is pretty cool, the Night City is also cool. Even Caelid is amazing in how desolate it is. But the Mountaintops literally feel like I've entered another world, removed from the rest of the Lands Between. It feels like how I'd imagine Jon Snow must've felt going to the North in Game of Thrones. Anyway, I did complete one dungeon, the Giant's Mountaintop Catacombs, and it was a really tense experience. It's such a long maze-like dungeon, and I ran out of all my healing potions, and had literally no other way to heal other than using that dumb Blessed Dew Talisman that heals at a snail's pace. So I cleared out a room, waited patiently to recover any HP if needed, and moved on. So many explosive pots. Had to take out so many giant pots at a distance. It was an experience. I made it though! Tomorrow, onward!
which walkthrough are you using as your guide? i know you shared that checklist one, which i am using to tick boxes, and I'm also using the fextralife as my primary walkthrough, but i'm not convinced it is the best...
I'm using an assortment because I don't feel any one single walkthrough really has their shit together. For NPC quests, I use a combination of the checklist and this Reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/tjmodv/all_npc_interactions_in_elden_ring/ while also referring to fextralife articles for any finer points. For the walkthrough, I have mainly been using fextralife to generally steer me on where to go, but I should warn that they don't cover everything in that Game Progress Route, and really I just use their interactive map (link below) to determine where I want to go and what I need to get. I also use their article about level recommendation (link below) to determine what order I should explore locations. https://eldenring.wiki.fextralife.com/Interactive+Map Recommended Level by Location | Elden Ring Wiki Now, to be clear, I actually paid to get a profile on their site so I could properly use their interactive map to check off what I've done and save my progress. So once I've determined what area I'm exploring, I use the map to figure out what to look for and then check off each item, boss, etc. as I clear it in the game, so I know where I've been and what I have left, making sure to keep any NPC quests in mind as I complete stuff.
Idly thinking about how this world has giant crabs and prawn people, and wondering where Boggart gets his meat from.
Players Log: Dark Souls Remastered: -Beat Bed of Chaos (weird “boss”) -Collected all Pyromancies -Now time to backtrack through the game to collect all the weapons needed for completion and before facing the final boss.
Player's Log: I completed the majority of Mountaintops, with the exception of Castle Sol and the area surrounding it, and of course the Foot of the Forge area. I did kill the dragon, Borealis, who was a tough fight because Frostbite is no fucking joke. I actually decided to not use the Mimic for the fight and rely on the archer Spirit Ash so she could snipe from a distance while I went in close range on Torrent. Took me a good four tries. With that done, and since I'd completed the final contract, I decided to finish off Volcano Manor. The only reason the fight with Rykard went so well is because halfway through his second form, I managed to find myself wedged between his backside and a wall. He for some reason couldn't detect my presence, and I was able to just keep wailing on him until he finally died. What an annoying fight though. Putting a boss in the middle of a lava pool is just unfair for strength builds, IMO. Anyway, I finished all the Volcano Manor questlines, and I'm calling it a night there. Also, my Vigor is now at 60, Strength is almost at 60. Pretty happy about that. Tomorrow, I intend to take on Castle Sol and open the way into the Consecrated Snowfield.
Yeah, I guess that's on me. I knew going in that the Serpent Hunter was meant to be used, but I stubbornly wanted to use my own weapon. But is the Serpent Hunter long enough to reach across the lava? Edit: Just watched a video of the true version of it. Okay, I get it. But I guess I can take pride in the fact that I beat him without it.
I dunno, I'm finding this game very stressful and I don't feel like I'm really improving at all... not throwing in the towel yet but I don't know if I'm having much fun
Well, let me ask you this, how are you going about the game? I'll be real, I had to use a guide because I could tell wandering aimlessly without any real sense of where to go was going to aggravate me and ruin my experience. Once I knew where I was going, I was able to just enjoy the ride. Being specific, you have to be prepared to do every bit of non-story stuff you can before you do any story stuff in an area, because the game is more or less designed that way. You have to prepare your character adequately, or you'll be slaughtered. Also, what kind of build are you going for? I'm a hack-and-slasher so I went with a strength build and it's worked out for me this far, but of course it's only one way to play. I do regret not being able to use all the cool spells I've been getting.
I had to shelve these games for a long time before I finally engaged with them. Shorter play sessions helped me with this one starting off, treating said sessions like their own small adventure for my character instead of getting overwhelmed by the game at large.
Dark souls remastered has got me stuck unlike any other from game and I have found a lot of it to just be annoying and only really difficult due to clunky mechanics and poor level design (the run back for four kings alone has made me quit) that the three from games I have played (elden ring, ds3, and sekiro) perfected which makes them much, much more enjoyable. I’ll finish it someday but at a certain point I realized I wasn’t even having that much fun with it
Player's Log: I defeated Alecto in Ringleader's Evergaol. I figured out the trick to her, at least for me. I'd goad her into rushing me, and then if I waited just long enough when she's about to move to the side and attack, my Lion's Claw would hit her and she couldn't do anything about it. Like, if she'd rush me head on and I'd do it, she'd just pull back, but if she was in the middle of changing position, she didn't have time to dodge. And then I could get three or four more hits as she was getting back up. Beyond this, because she tends to stay back and wait for an opening, she gave me ample time to heal and restock my magic points. Anyway, rinse, repeat, done, dusted. On to the next challenge.
I figured out the trick to her, at least for anyone who isn’t good at this game, was to cheese her along the rocks at the edge of the map. Yours is more impressive to be aure
