Also still slowly going through it. Cleared out majority of Caelid. Now I’m at Plateau and again just absolutely amazed how much content is in each zone. Also I did the divine tower in Caelid but somehow missed the Godskin Apostle?
Going through and finishing trophies of bosses I need to do before completing the game. Malenia is kicking my fucking ass.
It's in the basement of the tower that you have to parkour then take a lift down to. There is a site of grace then an annoying blackflame monk right outside the damn boss door, real annoying so I've ditched it and am now exploring Altus Plateau and the Capital Outskirts instead - the scale & level of detail in the capital walls with all the statues etc. is absolutely unreal
Hmmmmm Ok I definitely activated one of the lifts and fought a black flame monk. I must’ve just missed it. I’m about to go back later.
Player's Log: Try Finger But Hole. Killed some bat creatures. Killed an owl and got an egg, and now I feel bad about it. Saw a horseback dude that I'm actively avoiding for now because I'm scared. Saw a little thing push a ball into a wall and then burst into light and I'm not sure what the hell I just witnessed. For serious though, I chose to be a Vagabond. Took the charm that increases health or something? Anyway, I didn't fuck with my appearance much other than the face and hair, but I'm always impressed by how much of a game in and of itself character customization is in games these days. I also remapped my controls to be something more comfortable. Attack should never not be the A button, game designers. Made the jump B, the strong attack X, Y remains the same, dodge and parry are the triggers, item use and I forget the other button but they're the shoulder pads. The map is a little... daunting. As someone who gets overwhelmed by too much freedom, I'm not sure exactly where I should be going. The guy said to go to the castle, and I know from what I've read here and elsewhere that the castle is the last place I should go right now, so I'm kind of fumbling and looking for anything I can find that's not the castle. I imagine eventually I'll consult a resource, but for right now I'm just getting comfortable with the game. I'm actually surprised I haven't died yet. I only played a Souls game once before in my life; the original Dark Souls, and died immediately. Here, I actually beat the Godfrey Soldier without any problems. That sense of security it's given me is clearly a lie.
So I just died to a pack of those flying things because my attack button decided it didn't want to work anymore. When I revived, same thing was happening. Read on Reddit it happened to someone else and they fixed it by hitting the left button on their mouse, which corrected things on their controller. Fixed mine too. That's... not good that that happened. EDIT: I figured out what happened. I'm playing the game in Windowed Mode and I was here. So when I clicked back on Ring to play, it didn't realize that's what I was doing. I had to click inside the game window for it to respond properly. I hate when games do this, because I always like to play in Windowed Mode, and a lot of games aren't built with that in mind, so controls never work properly unless you click in the window again and lock your mouse up. It's annoying, but whatever.
Just made a huge tactical error. I found this cave with a Site of Grace inside, and the cave continued deeper in, so I followed it, killed a ton of wolves, and then found myself in front of a Mist with no way to retreat. The cave led to the Beastman, who killed me. So... hm.
I decided to consult a walkthrough. I'm using one from thegamer.com. Good thing I did, because I totally bypassed the Church of Elleh earlier. I doubled back, where I got a Crafting Kit from the merchant and spoke to Renna, who gave me the bell and my first Spirit Ash. Then I went to the Gatefront Ruins. This took some doing to clear, partially because I cleared it once, stupidly decided to go to a Site of Grace, and then realized I'd inadvertently undone all the work I just did. Anyway, I did manage it. Took a lot of sneaking around the perimeter, until I only had the one big bastard left, and then I sicced the wolves on him. I've noted so far that allowing enemies to hit me while I parry, and then counterattack seems to be extremely effective. I imagine that won't last. Got the gear from the camp, including my first Ash Of War. Also got a better sword and armor out of the deal. Then I went back to the Church, bought a torch, and a Cracked Pot. This is all according to the walkthrough's instructions, mind you. Then the walkthrough wanted me to run my horse through Gatefront to get to Stormveil. What it didn't tell me is that a giant thing would fall from the sky, quickly turning my run through Gatefront into something more of a frantic mad dash to the exit. Reached the top, got the Golden Seed, and got another Spirit Ash from the lady in the shack. That's where I'm stopping for right now. My next move from what I'm reading is to head to a nearby graveyard, and then it's time to go spelunking.
I’m a little surprised by how sudden I put this game down after I beat it. I think I just went too hard in it for those 2 months. Maybe we’ll be back someday
I've beat every soulsborne 10+ times, I probably have close to a thousand hours in both Dark Souls 1 and Bloodborne. But I also haven't played Elden Ring at all after beating it. It's a brilliant game, but the thought of starting that journey again is exhausting. I think it'll be a bit before I'm up for it
i feel i'm reaching the point where i'm making a (relative) astonishing amount of progress lol doing a lot better than i feel i normally do (i guess that's what happens when you put stats into vigor :P)
So I started Ranni’s quest and the sorcerer’s in the other tower at three sisters. Really just wanted to finally get to the Divine Tower in Luirnia and apparently that’s one of the steps to doing so. Though also going through Altus Plateau and my god this game lol. This zone just like all the others is bursting with content. All worthwhile and interesting content that other games would just be padding. I truly don’t know how y’all wrapped this up so quick. Every other second I’m getting distracted by a cool thing after repeatedly telling myself I’m just gonna mainline an area lol.
makin my way thru Leyndell, walkin fast, beating those lesser royal knight dudes who i used to be TERRIFIED to fight (since they always killed me)
