Everything feels better now is actually my favorite from Indian lakes album but this and able bodies are damn close. I need to spend more time with dimly lit it came out at a weird time in my life.
I like Dimly Lit, but the problem with that record is that the synths on it have the worst timbres of Joe's discography
im halfway through dimly lit so far and its hitting much harder than i remember but i dont remember much about my life around the time this came out so its entirely possible it was always this good and i just forgot
I think Dimly Lit is the most impressive FIL album but also is the only record (barring the debut) that has anything close to filler. I think two or three songs shorter and it might be their best.
Weirdly it’s the only FIL album I cannot get into. Loving the new one. Everything Feels Better Now is my favourite.
Everything Feels Better Now and Absent Sounds are the ones for me, but I really like Head Void and Dimly Lit. Haven’t listened to the first one ever tbh
Today, it's: Everything Feels Better Now Able Bodies Absent Sounds The Man With Wooden Legs Head Void Dimly Lit They're all great. Head Void could move up a little with more time.
Their discography is amazing. Absent Sounds Able Bodies Maybe Head Void? It’s too early to tell EFBN Dimly Lit I’ve never listened to their debut. Should I? Absent Sounds is by far my favorite. Dimly Lit has very high highs but doesn’t keep my interest. It starts getting very samey. Most of the songs have a similar tempo and sound which makes them bleed together. I’ve listened to it more than 10 times and I should be able to differentiate more of the songs. As much as I love this band I was a little disappointed when I saw them live in spring 2019. They “reimagined” a lot of their older songs with their newer reverb-soaked style which wasn’t my favorite.
I’ve listened to Able Bodies a couple times before. Definitely need to revisit it. Will peep the first one too
Able Bodies Absent Sounds EFBN Head Void Dimly Lit The Man with the Wooden Legs I could make a reasonable case to myself for any of the top five being the best FIL album though. I think the last five is my favorite five album run of any artist.
My wife will listen to the artist radio feature on Spotify often on our Sonos, and if she does something like Copeland or whatever then undoubtedly a bunch of FIL songs come on. Every time I hear one from Dimly Lit, I’m like damn I actually like this! But then any time I go to actually listen to the record I can’t make it through more than a few songs. Can’t pinpoint why but I just can’t get into it for some reason
EFBN Absent Sounds Head Void Able Bodies (probably in 3rd many days but I’m really fucking with Head Void) Dimly Lit
Ok I'll do a ranking. Absent Sounds Dimly Lit ≈ Head Void (not sure yet) EFBN Able Bodies The Man with Wooden Legs
I'd like to add that the live able bodies stream recording thing they did is a hot tamale. That record updated with his current synth and shoe gaze chill vibes is very cool.
everything feels better now head void able bodies dimly lit absent sounds the man with the wooden legs everything’s an 8/10 or higher
